My 2005 murano acted the same, and just broke down this morning, the dealer just called it was my transfer case and they only replace them. The whining noise the hesitation and not wanting to go at times and then the grinding sound and they say its not covered by warranty.

Without going into minute detail, I would NEVER allow an aamco site to work on a transmission of mine. The lies, the continued frustration...it followed me for three years and 2 states before I finally sold it, (I advised the buyer of the aamco scam, he smiled said he was quite aware of aamco and would have it fixed elsewhere). had I been a little more upset, I probably would have gone terminal "postal" on that bunch of crooks.

I have a 2009 Nissan Rogue and have had problems with the transmission for about 2 years. After an hour or so at highway speeds (75 here in AZ) my engine would lose power and despite having the pedal to the metal I could only muster 60-65 mph. I told my mechanic about it way back then and couldn't figure out the problem. Finally a few weeks ago I told him I am still having the same problem. He said another client of his was having the same problem and took it to the dealer. I did the same and and the dealer said yes there was a problem and to my amazement they said lets get you a new transmission. Just got it back today (7-12-11) and so far so good. Got a long trip next week so we will see if it works properly. THANK YOU NISSAN!

That's a long powertrain warranty. The only longer warranty was provided by Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge 2008 and 2009 model years which came standard with a lifetime powertrain warranty for the original owner.

I own a 2007 Nissan Altima 2.5S and upon a recent trip through northern Alabama on the way to Indianapolis the cvt transmission began to slip. I immediately realized something was wrong and observed smoke in the rearview mirrow behind the vehicle. I stopped the vehicle and opened the hood. I saw what appeared to be cvt fluid puddling on top of the transmission. I looked under the car just as the fluid caught fire as it hit the exhaust pipes under the engine. Fortunately I was able to get my wife out of the vehicle along with my belongings. I retrieved a fire extinguisher from a deputy sheriff and extinguished the fire before it could do any real damage. The vehicle was towed away and we were left dumb founded as we have never had any problems before with the cvt transmission. My wife drives a long distance to work each day so the mileage, 130,000, is definately higher than normal for most cars at this age. Rahal Nissan in Marianna, FL said today that this would not be covered because it was out of warranty. I am very disappointed at this time not only because of the obvious danger me and my wife were in but now I have to find a way to pay for repairs. By the way, I was told I should replace the transmission because repairing it would be more expensive than replacing it. I have enjoyed my Nissan vehicles until this event. I will have to think long and hard about buying another Nissan.
p.s. Research the web and you will see other similar events
