Cars.  To most people, that is all they are.  Transportation, and nothing more.  People buy them as they would a washing machine, for to most, a car is yet another appliance.  For the masses, the experience of “car” means talking to a man in a bad suit, listen to rehearsed answers to questions you haven’t asked, and haggling over specs, colors and paint protection packages – all before going home swearing you will never do any of it ever again.  How something so dear to my heart can be such a chore to others defies my comprehension.  For me, the automotive experience holds a deeper meaning.

Ever wondered what the instrument display (cluster) of a new $375,000 Lexus LFA looks like in action from launch all the way to 160mph? Wait no more. Check out the video below from the French magazine ‘Motorsport Magazine’ of Lexus’ Supercar doing what it does best.

The LCD dashboard instrument display is unique to the Lexus LFA, which changes appearance in respect to the selected mode. The display goes as far as to make the increments between the RPM numbers appear larger in certain modes with a white background color indicating Sport Mode. The tachometer readout even glows red as it approaches redline or the optimal shift point. The Lexus LFA is truly a remarkable vehicle and this video only captures a glimpse of is capabilities. Who else but Jay Leno has such a large car collection and has recently opted to purchase a new Chevrolet Volt? I can’t think of anyone. Jay is a one-of-a-kind person who never flaunts the fact that he has millions to spend however he pleases. Instead of Jay taking delivery of the latest exotic or luxury car, he decides to be a little on the economical side of things this day by taking delivery of his brand new Chevy Volt.

The new Chevrolet Volt is full of technology and probably enough computer power to launch the space shuttle. With that said, this car is right down Jay’s ally. It is obvious he has something against EV vehicles such as the new Nissan Leaf in the way he says that you can just jump in the new Volt and go anywhere versus the pure electric cars will only take you half way. Jay Leno gets to talk with Gerry Koss, Ford’s Marketing Manager for Fleet Operations. They introduce the two new Police Interceptors which Ford has been working with advisory board to create vehicles with three key points: reliability, safety and durability. The new Ford Taurus and Ford Explorer Interceptors provide many options for outfitting based on a police unit needs. With over 365 horsepower, the new Interceptor vehicles can keep up with anything a criminal can throw at them.

Jay Leno jokes around in the video below saying the criminals will really love this car and will be refreshed after getting a ride in the back so they can have another day of committing crime. Later on Jay has some fun at the LAPD test track in the new Ford Taurus Interceptor. Enjoy!

The Smoking Tire’s host Matt Farah is another guy with a better job than me. He gets to drive insanely crazy-fast sports cars such as the Audi R8 V10 5.2-liter Spyder only the latest one he drives happens to be tuned by STaSIS Engineering. STaSIS provided Matt with their latest creation, a supercharged Audi R8 V10 Spyder that produces 710 horsepower. In the video review Matt gets all giggly and can hardly contain himself when he accelerates in the STaSIS V10 R8 as I am sure any other car enthusiast would including myself.

Matt makes in interesting point about STaSIS Engineering when compared to other tuners for vehicles of this caliber. He simply states that this tune from STaSIS is provided from Audi dealerships for a ‘certain’ price but carries a 4-year warranty. Matt also makes the interesting analogy stating that the STaSIS Audi R8 V10 Spyder is “like a Lamborghini Gallardo smoked a big fat rock of crack but chilling at home wearing comfy pajamas.” Enjoy the video below!
