2012 Chrysler 300 Commercial Introduces new 8-Speed Automatic Transmission

September 20, 2011 by

Chrysler aims to step up their game another notch with the introduction of a new 8-speed automatic transmission in the 2012 Chrysler 300. The workhorse 5-speed automatic has served Chrysler well over several years but not it seems it is time that they got with the program. The new 8-speed automatic transmission delivers better performance and efficiency, a touted 31 mpg when mated to the Pentastar V6 engine, proving that Chrysler got the memo from us and many other journalists talking about how “aged” the 5-speed auto was.

A new commercial, posted below, attempts to demonstrate Chrysler’s innovation of the 8-speed automatic in the new 2012 300 combining luxury and efficiency. This new character and conviction comes straight out of the heart of Motown. Enjoy the video below.

The Dodge Dakota Reaches The End Of The Line

If you like your utility not too big, but not too small, you’re about to have one less choice on the market. The last Dodge (actually, Ram) Dakota pickups will roll off of Chrysler’s Warren Truck Plant Line tomorrow, ending a production run of some 24 years. Spotty build quality and mechanical issues plagued the Dakota over much of its life, and owners seem to be divided into two camps: those who experienced no problems with their trucks and those who experienced nothing but problems from their trucks. If you’re partial to all things Dodge, here’s another reason to attend the 2012 Detroit Auto Show (or at least keep a close eye on the news feeds): Dodge is said to be unveiling a replacement for the less-than-well-received Caliber. The Caliber ended production in 2010, and it’s quite possible that no one even noticed. When a noted auto journalist complained about the handling and braking of the Caliber in SRT trim, a Chrysler engineer said something along the lines of, “It’s a Caliber, and we did the best we could.” Read more…

Chrysler Spins Off SRT Brand, Puts Gilles In Charge

The 2012 Chrysler 300 SRT8. Image: Chrysler Group, LLC

Ralph Gilles is a car guy who loves to drive, and he’s pretty damn good at it. He’s competed in One Lap of America and the Targa Newfoundland, just to name a few events off the top of my head. Speak with him and you soon realize that he’d rather be sweating in three layers of Nomex, preparing to slam the door on a trailing competitor, than sitting in a boardroom discussing numbers with Chrysler Group head Sergio Marchionne. Still, as the lead designer for Chrysler Group, LLC, and the former CEO of the Dodge brand, that’s how Gilles spent the bulk of his days. I say spent, because things are changing at Chrysler; thanks to a management shuffle, Gilles has been appointed CEO of the SRT brand at Chrysler, and that’s exactly where we need him. Read more…

Chrysler Working On Engine That Burns Gas And Diesel

June 6, 2011 by
Filed under Automotive, Chrysler, Diesel, News

What if you could have the performance of a 4.0 liter V6, while returning the fuel economy of an inline four? Chyrsler is working with the Department of Energy on just such an engine, and it will use both gasoline and diesel to achieve these performance targets. It won’t burn the two fuels independently, so running out of gas (or diesel, presumably) will still leave you stranded. Instead, the engine burns the two fuels simultaneously to achieve both superior performance and fuel economy. Read more…
