It’s hard to imagine that a car company, let alone series of brands, has lasted upwards of 100 years. With hard times hitting the industries in the 1920’s, to the most recent hardship that America has faced, it is good to know that General Motors’ Chevrolet brand has been one to stick it out for a full 100 years. To celebrate their recent paramount, Chevrolet has released a series of videos titled “The Road We’re On”. These videos bring life stories of Chevrolet owners, communities and dealers to the forefront of reality in America. GM And Teijin Hope To Bring Carbon Fiber To The Masses

Carbon fiber is incredibly light, incredibly strong and also incredibly expensive. The materials used to make carbon fiber components aren’t particularly rare or pricey, but the conventional manufacturing process is labor intensive, requiring specialized industrial equipment to produce light but strong parts. There have been recent breakthroughs in material science, such as the carbon composites developed between Boeing, the University of Washington and Lamborghini, but these are still priced beyond practical implementation in the average family sedan. Consumer Reports: Chevy Volt Delivers Highest Satisfaction

Consumer Reports has just released its latest owner satisfaction ratings, and the Chevy Volt extended range EV tops the list in customer satisfaction. The Volt scored 93 percent on CR’s owner surveys, edging out the Porsche 911 and the V-8 Dodge Challenger, which each scored 91 percent. The findings from Consumer Reports give the Volt some precious good news, just as the NHTSA begins an investigation into post-crash-test fires caused by the battery pack. Read more…
GM To Partner With BMW On Fuel Efficient Designs

While GM and BMW are both automakers, you’d hardly consider them rivals. GM builds, among other things, cars and trucks for the masses. BMW builds cars for the masses in Europe, but in the United States the Bavarian automaker is seen as a luxury brand and is priced accordingly. In regards to fuel efficiency, BMW builds more advanced gas and diesel engines than GM. When it comes to extended range EVs, General Motors has the superior technology. Read more…
About Face: OnStar Cancels Planned Changes To Terms And Conditions

What an eventful few weeks it’s been for OnStar. Last week, a story broke that the telematics service would continue collecting customer data even after the service was cancelled by the user. Worse, OnStar was requesting the right to sell that data (in anonymous, aggregate form) to third party companies, which prompted a public outcry. New York Senator Chuck Schumer even got involved, asking the FTC to probe the legality of OnStar’s data harvesting. Read more…

Confirmed: Cadillac Will Build Converj, Call It ELR

Just last week we told you that, like zombies and politicians, the Cadillac Converj electric car concept had risen from the grave. Now GM is confirming those rumors, admitting that development work is underway for a car it’s calling the Cadillac ELR. The name ELR (“Electric Long Range” is our guess) befits the car’s electric propulsion system, and ties in with the brand’s three-letter naming convention. Read more…
