Hyundai Reveals Powertrain Specs For Upcoming Genesis Coupe

November 14, 2011 by

Hyundai’s 2012 Genesis Coupe won’t officially debut for another six weeks (at January’s Detroit Auto Show), but the Korean automaker chose to reveal details of the car’s powertrain options at last weekend’s Korea Speed Festival in Yeongam, Korea. As expected, both the 2.0-liter turbo engine and the normally aspirated 3.8-liter V-6 are getting more grunt, which should result in a substantial performance improvement for the the new two-door Genesis. Also as expected, there won’t be a V-8 option, and there isn’t any word on a supercharged V-6 option yet, either. Read more…

Looking to build anticipation for the upcoming release of the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe, the Korean automaker posted front and rear teaser shots of the new Genesis Coupe on its own Korean language blog. The “official” shots back up the leaked images we’ve been seeing, and confirm that the new Genesis Coupe will wear the now-familiar hexagonal grille. Read more…

‘THE COMPACT FIVE DOOR SEGMENT HAS A NEW PLAYER’

Hyundai is once again shaking up the growing compact five-door wagon segment with the introduction of the much improved forth-generation Accent compact five-door wagon.  Available as a four-door sedan with a trunk, or a five-door wagon, I tested the more versatile and popular five-door SE and came away very impressed with the overall build quality, design, performance, attention to detail, versatility, and high-fuel mileage ratings.

We couldn’t make it to this year’s SEMA show, since no one picked us up hitchhiking on I-95. Instead, we’re at the mercy of the manufacturers, many of which flood our mailboxes with press releases on the latest SEMA decal kit or paint job. Some build cars that we’d really like to drive, and topping that list is the Hyundai Genesis Coupe built by Rhys Millen Racing (RMR). In fact, we’d go so far as to say it’s a car that Hyundai itself should be building. Read more…

2012 Hyundai Veloster: First Drive

2012 Hyundai Veloster

The 2012 Hyundai Veloster is a rolling contradiction in terms. It’s a halo car for Hyundai, meant to lure new customers into the brand, yet it’s priced comparably to a well-equipped Hyundai Elantra. It’s compact in size, yet it has an honest-to-God rear seat, with enough head and leg room to accommodate six-footers. It’s only got 138 horsepower, yet the dual-clutch, paddle-shifted automatic is surprisingly entertaining to drive. Finally, it’s a coupe, but it has three doors (four, if you count the hatch). Is This The New Hyundai Genesis Coupe?

Is this the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe? Image: Hyundai Blog

We’ll apologize in advance that we can’t give you a whole lot of detail on the above photo. It first appeared on Hyundai Blog, under the title of “2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe,” and the styling does indeed tie the Coupe into Hyundai’s latest “fluidic sculpture” design language. There’s the now-familiar hexagonal grille, along with the sculpted hood and character lines running from the front fenders and across the door. I’m even seeing a bit of the Nissan GT-R in the front end design, although I don’t think the resemblance is intentional. Read more…

Is Hyundai’s New i30 Coming Stateside? We Hope So

Hyundai's design sketch of the new i30.

If you want to buy a Hyundai Elantra today, your choice is limited to a four-door sedan or a five-door hatchback. The sedan is all-new for 2011, and it’s selling faster than Hyundai can build them. The 5-door hatchback, however, is still based on the previous generation Elantra, so it’s a bit of a tough sell. It’s not as sexy or content-rich as the updated Elantra sedan, and the rest of the world is scheduled to see the new Elantra 5-door at the upcoming Frankfurt Auto Show. Dubbed the i30, the Elantra Hatchback carries the same “fluidic sculpture” styling as the rest of the restyled Hyundai lineup, and on looks alone it trumps the competition. Read more…

Let’s be honest: as journalists, we much prefer driving and writing about the latest fire-breathing, earth-shaking supercars. Readers prefer stories about them too, but when it comes time to part with hard earned cash, a lot of the transactions are in the subcompact class of cars. That list includes cars like the Toyota Yaris, the Honda Fit, the Nissan Versa, the Mazda 2, the Ford Fiesta and the upcoming Chevy Sonic. As gas prices have increased, subcompact segment sales have gone through the roof, with sales growth in segment now above 85 percent. Read more…
