Ferrari F1 Stars Alonso And Massa Drive Jeeps?

Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa pose with their new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8s

Formula One drivers aren’t like you and I. They live in nicer houses, have bigger bank accounts and sometimes have garages filled with lustworthy cars. Jenson Button, for example, used to own a Bugatti Veyron, and the McLaren Mercedes driver recently sold his classic Ferrari 512 BB. It’s not uncommon for automakers partnered with F1 teams to give drivers their wares, since it’s clearly good advertising for the brand. Current world champion Sebastian Vettel drives an FX50 crossover from team sponsor Infiniti, and we’d be willing to bet he didn’t pay list price for it. Read more…

The 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan. Image: Chrysler Group LLC

Quick: what’s the difference between a Dodge Grand Caravan and a Chrysler Town & Country? How about the difference between a Dodge Avenger and a Chrysler 200? If you answered “price, mostly,” you’d be correct, although the 200 does offer a ragtop while the Avenger does not. The list of duplicate models in the Chrysler portfolio goes on, and offering so many variations on a common theme makes life confusing for both customers and car dealers alike. Read more…

It’s no secret that money has been tight at Chrysler in recent years, and many of the projects on the drawing board have been moved to the back shelf. One of those was a Jeep Wrangle based pickup, which seems to draw admiration and thumbs up from fans whenever it’s shown. Admiration doesn’t always translate into sales, as Toyota found out with their FJ Cruiser, so Chrysler has been hesitant to release a Jeep pickup in the current economy. That didn’t stop them from showing the JK-8 Pickup at this year’s Moab Jeep Safari, and many speculated that a Wrangler pickup would be on the market soon. Read more…

Jeep has been making its mark on this green earth for 70 years now.  That mark can be found on some of the most treacherous terrain that you can throw at an off-road vehicle.  The Jeep is one of the most unmistakable and trusted off-road vehicles on the road since 1941. The Jeep Wrangler, introduced in 1987, continues to embody virtually the same characteristics that Jeeps were originally designed for, except in a modern-day package.

Ralph Gilles is a car guy who loves to drive, and he’s pretty damn good at it. He’s competed in One Lap of America and the Targa Newfoundland, just to name a few events off the top of my head. Speak with him and you soon realize that he’d rather be sweating in three layers of Nomex, preparing to slam the door on a trailing competitor, than sitting in a boardroom discussing numbers with Chrysler Group head Sergio Marchionne. Still, as the lead designer for Chrysler Group, LLC, and the former CEO of the Dodge brand, that’s how Gilles spent the bulk of his days. I say spent, because things are changing at Chrysler; thanks to a management shuffle, Gilles has been appointed CEO of the SRT brand at Chrysler, and that’s exactly where we need him. Read more…

Lenny Kravitz, outdoorsman.

Not too long ago, Lenny Kravitz was cutting-edge cool. His music spanned the gap between rock, soul, funk and reggae, and Kravitz was a master at being in just the right place at just the right time. Over his career he’s racked up four Grammys (out of seven nominations), a few MTV and VH1 awards, appeared in four films and released eight CDs. He’s touring with U2 this summer, and he’s also working with Chrysler to pitch the Jeep Wrangler. Watch the video starring Kravitz and the Jeep Wrangler below. Read more…
