Just when you thought that legislators in the Golden State had come to their senses, something happens to reaffirm our opinion that California may be the least-car-enthusiast-friendly state in the country. After showing some degree of sanity by agreeing to adopt the proposed EPA mileage standard of 54.5 mpg by 2025, California has announced that, by 2025, a minimum of 15.4 percent of sales must be of electric, plug-in-hybrid or hydrogen powered vehicles. The original conception of SUV’s came in the form of a truck-based platform. Lately, many SUV’s have taken a different direction incorporating a car-based unibody design. If you own a car like the Bugatti Veyron in south Florida, there aren’t many places where you can mat the go-pedal, at least for long. Its drag strip is often open to the public, and its road course can be run with an instructor or during high-performance driving events. Read more…

Videos: Nissan Juke-R Shakedown and Testing
The Nissan Juke R project has just about come to a conclusion. Ever since the conception of the idea of merging the drivetrain of the Nissan GT-R with the Juke, Nissan engineers have been hard at work creating what will probably the fastest compact crossover vehicle around.
The latest videos from Nissan (below) reveals the final touches and testing of the Juke R demonstrating how the GT-R’s powerplant can work in harmony at the heart of a compact crossover vehicle. If Nissan plans to build this thing, we are sure all the marketing department has to do to win over enthusiasts is mention the Juke-R is essentially a GT-R masked under the Juke’s body. Maybe they can call it a new-age “sleeper”.

Years ago I rode with a sportbike club, until one ill-fated weekend ride where the group suffered three crashes and a member received a ticked for 100 miles per hour OVER the speed limit. After spending two days running from a certain Western state’s highway patrol, I realized that having a license, and not being dead, were more important than the occasional high-speed hoon weekend. Bad things happen in high speed groups, whether you’re talking about motorcycles or cars. Read more…
