It is a rather inevitable that we would see the new Scion FR-S, along side of the Subaru BRZ, on the Formula Drift circuits burning up the rear tires. Considering that most Formula D vehicles have a substantial amount of power, the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ’s powerplant in its stock form just isn’t going to suffice when it comes to competitive drifting. Motor Trend seems to have captured the Scion FR-S in a turbocharged flavor making rounds at Laguna Seca by what is speculated to be the Scion drift team.

We know horsepower, we know the available gearboxes, we know the interior room and we even know standard equipment, but what we don’t know yet is price. Toyota jumped the gun a few days back, leaking images and video of the FT-86 (called the GT 86 in Japan) sports coupe. You knew Subaru had to follow, so here are the images of the production Subaru BRZ, which will be officially unveiled at this week’s Tokyo Motor Show.
The Subaru may look a bit plain compared to the Toyota, but the Toyota GT 86 shown was likely a higher-trim model with an included body kit. If more aggressive looks are your style, we’re pretty sure that Subaru will be happy to sell you air dams, spoilers, side skirts and splitters to improve airflow and appearance. Read more…

These are crazy days for automakers, since almost all are scrambling to achieve the latest fuel economy requirements, which must total a fleet-wide average of 54.5 mpg by 2025. Automakers like Chevrolet can justify cars like the Camaro ZL-1 and the Corvette ZR1 thanks to more fuel-efficient models, like the Chevy Cruze, Chevy Sonic and Chevy Volt. If you’re Subaru, who only builds models in fuel-sucking AWD, you need to plot each and every move with care. Read more…
Here’s What The Subaru BRZ Will (Probably) Look Like

The Subaru BRZ and it’s platform-sharing cousin, the Toyota FT-86 (or Scion FR-S) won’t be unveiled until the Tokyo Motor Show, which kicks off at the end of this month. Subaru chose to show an “STI concept” of its upcoming BRZ sports coupe, and we suspect that the final product will look a lot like what you see here. The wing may not make production versions (especially in base model trim), and the aero package may be slightly less aggressive, but the basic lines of the car should be nearly identical, and we say that’s a good thing.
