If you prefer your electric cars with a bit more luxury and style than the Nissan Leaf, there’s good news on the horizon: Tesla has announced pricing on its upcoming Model S sedan, and it looks like the car will span quite a price range. On the low side, the Model S with a 40 kilowatt hour battery pack (good for a projected 160 mile range) will start at $57,400, presumably without options. If you qualify for the $7,500 electric car tax incentive, you can (theoretically) get the car for $49,900, even if that’s not what you’ll pay the dealer. Read more…

Tesla Updates Us On The Model S

March 8, 2011 by

Remember the Tesla Model S? The uber-sexy sedan that was going to be the first four door EV we all lusted after? Tesla wants to remind us that the project is moving along, even if it isn’t front and center in the news on a daily basis. The car is currently in Alpha testing, which means that engineers are flogging the snot out of prototypes to see what breaks and what doesn’t. Later this year, Tesla will move to Beta testing, where more Tesla employees and industry insiders are tossed a set of Model S keys, with the instructions to “tell us what works and what doesn’t”. If everything progresses as planned (which almost never happens), Tesla Model S deliveries in the United States will begin mid-year 2012. Read more…

Tesla’s Model S Alpha Road Test Video

Just when I was getting ready to question if Tesla’s Model S sedan would ever see the light of day, the company has released video of an Alpha test mule racking up miles on the back roads of California. I’ve got a background in product development, so I completely understand the importance of Alpha testing something: the goal is to take a product that’s 75% complete, then use it until it breaks and figure out what needs improving. If Alpha testing sorts out most of the bugs, the next step is Beta testing, which usually involves more than just engineers (in some cases, potential customers get access to pre-production hardware). Assuming the Beta test goes well, the next real milestone is usually production of a final build candidate. That said, in twenty years of hardware and software product development, I’ve yet to see an Alpha or Beta test go smoothly. Video below. Read more…

Tesla plans on unveiling the highly anticipated Model S plug-in electric sedan today. Kevin Rose, the creator and master-mind of Digg.com, had a few images posted on flicker of the new Tesla Model S fully revealed from the rear and side along with an (obvious pre-production or pre-finish) interior shot. Are these official exterior images? Sure, they are official until we get the “official” images later today after the reports of the “official” unveiling happens. Until then, bookmark or favorite AutomotiveAddicts.com now and come back shortly and we should have several images of the new plug-in sedan that is expected to cost $57,000 with a $7500 tax credit (for driving a plug-in electric vehicle).

President Obama is going to love this car… Al Gore too!

Tesla Model S Uncovered Images – Sort Of

The guys at Autopia have a great imagination just as other gear-heads who post off-the-wall automotive stuff online. A new rendering of the Tesla S has taken it to a new level. They have rendered what the Tesla S may actually look like found in their post, “Behold the Tesla Model S“.

They basically took a combination of a few teaser images that have already been circulating over the internet on various automotive sites and automotive blogs. If you ask me, it looks pretty convincing and I am willing to bet the actual Tesla Model S to look very similar to the photoshop job below. Can we call it a photoshop job? Is that still the correct lingo?
