The Corvette ZR1 is the fastest car that GM has ever produced, and it’s the closest thing to a supercar that’s still being built by a major American manufacturer. Stuffed full of 6.2-liter, supercharged LS9 V-8, the uber Corvette makes some 638 horsepower and 604 pound-feet of torque. Given enough room (and the right conditions), Chevy says the car is capable of a 205 mile per hour top speed. Read more

The demise of Japan’s Best Motoring International – Hot Version video series was almost as sad as when Toyota stopped production of the Supra in 1998. The good news is that sometimes legends die hard.
Best Motoring put together one last race pitting the most popular modern-day supercars against each other. Those cars consist of the new Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, Ferrari F430 GT3, Lexus LFA, Nissan GT-R and the Porsche 911 GT2 RS. If that list of supercars does not excite you then you have serious issues and may need some counseling from Tony Soprano. Hit the jump below for some Best Motoring action one last time.

Out of the box, the $110,000 ZR1 Corvette gives you some pretty incredible stats, like 638 horsepower, 604 ft-lb of torque, a zero to sixty time of around 3.5 seconds and a top speed somewhere north of 200 miles per hour. Just a few years back, those numbers were reserved for cars with a prancing horse or a charging bull on their logos, with the accompanying increase in price. The Corvette ZR1 really does bring near-supercar performance to a broader audience (although $110k isn’t exactly blue collar), but that’s simply not good enough for some buyers. It’s one thing to show taillights to a Ferrari F430; it’s something else entirely to go toe to toe with your ZR1 against a Ferrari Enzo. Want to see a ZR1 capable of taking on Italy’s best? Blue Devil vs Blue Angel Drag Race Video: Corvette ZR1 vs. F/A-18 Hornet

If you have ever seen the Blue Angels in action at an airshow, then you know just how awesome they are. Better yet, if you have ever been lucky enough to strap in the cockpit of an F/A-18 Hornet, then you really can contest to how much of a bad-assed jet it really is. The new Corvette ZR1 is probably one of the closest things you can experience on land similar to a jet fighter (excluding the Bugatti Veyron of course). MotorTrend takes the ZR1 (Blue Devil) out against a Blue Angel F/A-18 Hornet for a drag race to 100mph just to see who would really win. Remember, the ZR1 can reach 60mph from a standstill in 3.3 second in part due to its 638 horsepower Supercharged V8. On the other hand, the F/A-18 Hornet packs in over 32,000 lbs of thrust making it capable of mach 1.8 (1,400mph). Check out the video below and enjoy!

This video is really amazing, you get to see two super cars go head to head! A ZR1 vs a Lambo? I wish I could have been there! In theory the Lambo should be faster than the ZR1, its lighter by about 60lbs and has 30 more hp, plus it has AWD. In the video the Lamborghini is being driven by a factory driver and the Corvette is being driven by a regular old auto journalist. This really makes you think that the ZR1 is one hell of a bargain! 705hp Hennessey ZR700 Corvette Unveiled

You may remember we posted information on the Hennessey 705hp HPE700 Camaro and now Hennessey continues on with this 705hp tradition by tuning the Corvette ZR1 introducing a 705hp Hennessey ZR700 Corvette.
Undoubtedly the Chevy Corvette ZR1 is Americans most powerful (native) supercar available. You thought 638hp was enough? Obviously Hennessey did not. They pumped an extra 67 ponies by increasing the boost from the supercharger by 3psi for a total of 14psi while installing other gadgets like a new intercooler, high-flow cats, stainless steel exhaust headers and a custom ECU programming. Just like the Hennessey Camaro, these parts will be available as a mail order kit later this year around May… ZR1 not included.
From these mods the performance jumps to an impressive 0-60 time of 3.1 seconds and a top speed of 212mph.
Speculation is that there will be a even more powerful Corvette ZR750 (add on kit) which will replace some internals of the already magnificent LS9 engine upping horse power to 755 with 730lb-ft of torque. That’s a serious bite!
