Jason and his crew at Heffner Performance are among an elite group of aftermarket tuners for exotic vehicles. One of the latest vehicles to come out of their shop with “some added power” is an Audi R8 V10.

The Heffner Performance Audi R8 V10 already has a powerful 10-cylinder engine but that is just not enough for some people. How much is enough? How about 725 wheel horsepower? Sure, that is exactly what this Audi R8 V10 received after Jason and his guys went to work with two Garrett GT35R turbos pumping 6psi of boost at the heart of this amazing project. That’s about 225 horsepower to-the-wheels more than stock.

For the past several months we have been working on the development of our bolt on V10 R8 Twin Turbo system. This system employs twin Garrett GT35R turbos pumping out 6 psi of boost which produces an ear to ear grin inducing 725 wheel horsepower which brings it up 225 wheel horsepower from stock.

To date I would have to say that this is the most refined aftermarket twin turbo car that I have ever experienced. Exhaust noise levels can be quieted down to near stock levels with the larger mufflers and can be a bit louder with the smaller mufflers.

We worked with the guys at European Performance Labs to engineer the engine calibration and the job that they did is nothing short of spectacular.

Power delivery is very smooth and linear and the whisper of spooling turbos makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck.

I would like to give a special thanks to Eurotech Motorsports in New Jersey as well as their customer, John for providing us with this car for development. This car will be used for regular track days and we will be sure to get you some good video once it hits the road course.

The Automotive Addicts crew had the opportunity to visit Heffner Performance. Not only do they pump out some of the fastest cars in the world, but they do it with the professionalism and top quality that you usually do not expect from your local tuner shop.

It is not easy to get featured in Car and Driver just as it isn’t easy to take an already fast car and make it even faster. But this is what Jason Heffner does at Heffner Performance located in Sarasota Florida. Heffner Performance does custom installations of twin turbo setups that have an OEM aesthetic appeal to them but that is where the factory originality ends. Take one of Heffner’s modified cars for a ride and you will immediately know that it is nothing like anything you have ever driven.

When you think of a tuner shop you usually do not imagine a workshop full of exotics neither do you expect to get 4-figure horsepower numbers out of any completed modification. It takes a shop like Heffner Performance, which has been in business since 1998, to make this magic happen.

Vehicles such as the worlds first twin turbo Audi R8 making over 530hp to the wheels, Lamborghini Gallardo LP560’s breaking the 1000hp barrier and Lamborghini Murcielago’s pushing the envelope to well over 1100hp are just a few examples of what you will find at Heffner Performance. Other notable tunes that can be found coming out of this shop are Dodge Vipers and Ford GTs. It is obvious with this type of work Jason and his crew are not messing around.

Speaking of not messing around, it was very interesting to find out during our tour of Jason’s shop that his crew does many of the fabrications of manifolds, exhaust setups and even turbo piping all in-house. That means he has his own metal shop complete with the necessary tools to get the job done right satisfying even the most meticulous customer. You always want to have the right tools when tinkering with someone’s toy that costs over $200,000.

During our visit to Heffner Performance we were able to capture where the hard work happens creating such beastly machines out of original American, German and even Italian craftsmanship.

Heffner Performance is at it again. They have boosted another Lamborghini Gallardo LP560.

Not many performance car aficionados would even dream of slapping on a pair of turbos to an already “fast” Lamborghini but this is what Heffner Performance does… make fast cars even faster.

Similar to that of the previous LP560 Twin Turbo that Heffner Performance worked on, this new baby blue beast should post a 0-60mph time of 2.8 seconds. That is done with 7 psi of boost which lays down between 800 and 825 rear wheel horsepower.

Update on this specific project:

“We installed our LP850-TT system which turned out roughly 850 horsepower on 93 octane and nearly 1000 horsepower on 100 octane. This system uses twin 62 mm ceramic ball bearing turbo from Precision Turbo and runs the factory Bosch engine management system (re mapped of course). In addition to the turbo system we removed the intake manifold and had it covered in carbon fiber which worked out very nicely. We also installed a complete carbon fiber engine compartment cover set, MOTON double adjustable coil over suspension, our SL style rear spoiler and had the steering wheel and interior parts done by MA Carbon which really set off the interior.”

We have been obsessing over this R8 V8 Twin Turbo system. In usual Heffner fashion we wanted to make something that looked like it could have come on the car from the factory. Well, I think we have done it. Right now the system is in raw fabricated form and now that we have completed dyno testing the car we will be removing the system for coating and polishing. I’ll save the pictures of the intercooler for later until all of the finishing touches have been added. When it is complete it will look much like the factory intake manifold to give this system the factory installed look that we were going for.
As of now the car is running on 6 psi and a 11.8 to 1 AFR and probably has a little more ignition timing removed than necessary to be on the safe side for now. This set up has given us a result of 536 rwhp. This is a 183 rwhp gain (more than a 50% increase) over what the car had when it came in with a Stasis exhaust and Revotech ecu tune.
We will also be doing a 100 octane program that we expect to get near 600 rwhp which should put this car solidly in the high 10 second quarter mile range.
