The way things are looking, electric sports cars or hybrid variations are the way of the future. Infiniti has taken a leap into the future to tease us with a new extended-range electric sports car concept today. The new electric sports car, slated for an introduction at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show in March, will expand Infiniti’s ‘inspired performance’ mantra for the brand even further. The Concept will show the latest direction that the brand’s stylists will be taking in the future, says Infiniti vice president Andy Palmer.

One of the things that’s led to Infiniti’s success in the luxury market is the handling of its automobiles. That’s given the automaker the semi-official designation as “the BMW of Japan,” but now Autoweek is reporting that a change may be in the works. Read more

Compact personal luxury cars are all the rage among manufacturers these days. Audi has spent a considerable amount of time and money promoting the A1 to European buyers. Even such “pedestrian” manufacturers as Hyundai are offering amenities such as nav systems, leather interiors and heated front and rear seats on their compact offerings, so where is Infiniti in all this confusion? ‘LETTING THE SHINE IN 12 MONTHS A YEAR’
When the road calls, the Infiniti G has always been quick to answer. Since its introduction in 2002, the G has been known for delivering the most rewarding combination of fluid design and exhilarating performance in its entry-level luxury segment. I was so enthralled with the car when I first tested it in 2002 that I drove straight to Monument Valley, Utah, some 400 miles away.

“The Four Wheel Luxury Liner”
For the past year total automobile sales have declined more than 40% across the entire spectrum of vehicles. Full-size luxury sport utilities haven’t been immune to this fact and it’s not solely because of their low mpg or high price. Well to do consumers still number in the hundreds of thousands that need power and torque to tow and carry large families, and corporations still need transportation surrounded by luxury for their clients. It’s the downturn in the economy that has well to do consumers and corporations being cautious and careful where the money is spent.

When I first saw the Infiniti Essence Concept in Geneva, I could not help but to think that this was Infiniti’s (Nissan’s) answer to Toyota’s Lexus LF-A. Supposedly the Infiniti Essence has a similar engine to that of the Nissan GT-R but also has an electric motor along side of it making this a Hybrid sports car.
