Who says a good looking car can’t go over 200mph? Okay, I don’t think anyone said that, I just made it up. Anyway, the Aston Martin One-77 is one sexy beast and it happens to be able to reach speeds over 200mph, 220mph to be exact.

During development testing of the Aston Martin One-77 supercar, testers were able to reach the comfortable top speed of 220.007mph (354.86 km/h) in dry but windy track test conditions. The 7.3-liter V12 probably still had some wind left in it to pass 220mph. We will have to wait to see if the One-77 will get any faster. Aston Martin’s One-77 supercar has moved closer to setting a new all-time record for the British marque in initial high speed testing after surpassing all predictions and comfortably breaking the 200mph mark.

The One-77 is currently undergoing a stringent development process ahead of planned launch in 2010 with high speed testing taking place at a top secret proving ground in southern Europe. In a series of test runs completed last week the One-77 exceeded original expectations and recorded a 220.007mph (354.86kmh) top speed in dry but windy conditions under the guidance of the Aston Martin engineering team. Dynamic testing is now scheduled to continue into the New Year.

Powered by a new Aston Martin 7.3 litre V12 engine, the One-77 is engineered to deliver breathtaking levels of power and performance. The dramatically styled two-door, two-seat sports coupe is based on an innovative new carbon fibre monocoque body structure and adopts new active aerodynamic technology.

The One-77 is the ultimate expression of what Aston Martin stands for and will combine modern technology and design with craftsmanship and ultimate exclusivity to create the world’s most desirable automotive art form.

As name suggests, production is limited up to a maximum of 77 individually numbered examples, with deliveries expected to commence in mid-2010.

Aston Martin took the wraps off of the Aston Martin One-77 at the Concorso d’Eleganza in Lake Como this past weekend. Not only did the One-77 show up, but it won the top design prize at this prestigious event. Below we have a few live images of the Aston Martin One-77 and videos taken with a camera phone.

We wonder if will James Bonds new car after he seriously damaged the last two Aston Martin DBS’s in the two latest 007 films. I also wonder what the “One-77″ means or if it is any correlation to “007″?

Aston Martin One-77 wins top design award at the Concorso d’Eleganza, Villa d’Este

Gaydon, Warwickshire 26 April 2009. At its world debut this weekend, the Aston Martin One-77 has won the Concorso d’Eleganza Design Award for Concept Cars and Prototypes on the shores of Lake Como, Italy.

Following the Geneva Auto Salon in March, where the technical illustration was first shown, the rolling chassis has since been completed by hand into the first car presented at Villa d’Este this weekend.

At its first public unveiling in the perfect setting of the Grand Hotel Villa d’Este, the first complete One-77 was on show. Visiting public were invited to cast their vote for the best concept and prototype. Among eight entries from around the world, the Aston Martin One-77 was voted the best in class, eclipsing the competition with more than 30% of the total votes.

Admiring crowds viewed One-77 in its entirety for the first time. The car was showcased complete with running powertrain and the never seen before, fully hand-crafted interior.

Aston Martin Chief Executive, Dr Ulrich Bez said: “Embodying everything Aston Martin stands for; the One-77 has proven itself as the most desirable automotive art form at its premiere today.

“We have achieved a new level of design and craftsmanship which has been clearly recognised by the public here in the homeland of design at Villa d’Este.”

Aston Martin Design Director, Marek Reichman said: “To win this award at its first showing is a testament to the Aston Martin team and the original concept. Winning here today has proven One-77 as a benchmark in automotive design.”

HMMM double 7′s 007 I wonder if they planned that or was it a coincidence?

Watch in the latest video starring the Aston Martin One-77 below, you will see three of the participants in its sculpting as it were, and express some of its finer points. The One-77 will be so powerful it will be able to accelerate from any gear and its pedals can be fine-tuned to suit the individual owner, so they each get the exclusive feel for their car. The one exclusive thing is that exterior panels are hand-made, something Aston can afford to do since only 77 of these rare cars will be produced.

The very best materials are used for building this car, some have probably never been used on any other car ever. As states in the clip “The amount of noise that will come through the exhaust…will sound like nothing that you’ve ever imagined before” is but one of many strong statements made on this clip.

I see the US going the way of the Britt’s the leader of the world that can’t make anything right. The Austin Martin is one of my favorite cars. The type that you can’t buy a used one you know what I mean, the type of thing in your life that when you get one it has to be new. I hope the 77 lucky people who get one enjoy a new One-77 get what they will be paying for. In the clip they make a lot of claims of excellence and i hope they meet them and the Aston One-77 promises to deliver on all of them.

The One-77 will produce 700bhp from a 7-litre V12 engine and the supercar will top 200 mph. This car should arrive in the fourth quarter of 2009, though the company has said the Project One-77 title is still a temporary moniker a permanent one is still in the works.

Just 77 will be made, and if you’re lucky enough to get on the list, it will cost you. The sticker is reportedly more than $1.6 million for that price if anything doesn’t work I would kick someone’s but especially those in the video clip.
