Will Tire Tread Scanners Keep Roads Safer?

A few months back, Malcolm and I were headed north on I-95 after a Southern Automotive Media Association meeting in Miami. We were driving at around 75 miles per hour, in a steady rain and moderate traffic, when the minivan next to us spun.

The whole thing happened too fast to be puckering; one minute, the van was alongside us, and the next the driver was looking out his windshield at the side of my car. No one was hurt, and the van suffered only minor damage. Traffic was slowing ahead, and the minivan driver most likely tapped his brakes. What caused the spin? My guess is bald tires on a wet road. Like big wheels? Does your taste in automotive styling run to the donk side? If so, I’d suggest you stay away from Cincinnati, Ohio, where police are using a little known section of the municipal code to seize cars rolling on wheels deemed “too large” to be safe. I haven’t seen any clear definition on what size constitutes a “threat to public safety”, but I’d be willing to guess that your risk of an impounded vehicle goes up exponentially with wheel sizes over 20”. If impounded, the vehicles must pass a “safety inspection” before they can be returned to their owners, and guess who pays for that inspection? The owners, who also get saddled with towing and impound fees. Read more

Ford has revealed its new Ford Explorer Interceptor Utility which looks like it will get the job done for running down and hauling several ‘none-law-abiding citizens. I must say, this is probably one of the coolest looking Police SUV’s next to a murdered out Chevy Tahoe Police Interceptor lowered on police issue suspension and black steel wheels.

Driver Flips Over Police Car During High Speed Police Chase

I could not resist posting this video. The video below is of what appears to be a new 4-door Honda Accord in a high-speed police chase.

As reported by CNN: “Police pursue a man in Houston, Texas. The suspect evaded one officer by ramming into his car, which then flipped over.”

The car being pursued seems to be a new Honda Accord which was put to the test in this high speed chase. Enjoy the video below.
