Porsche 918 Spyder Production Confirmed – Priced at $845,000

The new Porsche 918 Spyder Hybrid Sportscar now has an official price tag set at $845,000 and will go into production September 2013.
The 918 Spyder was first previewed at the Geneva Motor Show last year. The production version of the 918 Spyder is almost a dead ringer from that concept with only a few minor changes. Even though the first production is slated to be reality in about 2 years time and have a price tag of $845,000, we suspect that the orders will roll in fast (taking orders now) and you must react quickly to become the owner of the most expensive production Porsche. The production date is set for September 18th, 2013.

Obviously the Porsche GT3 R Hybrid was not enough for Porsche. The Germans wanted to push the envelop even further, hence their creation of the Porsche 918 Spyder Hybrid and now a full-on race car, the Porsche 918 RSR. The Porsche 918 is modeled after the infamous 917 but has advanced tech that you would expect in 2011.

The new Porsche 918 made a driving debut just recently in Monterey, California before making an appearance at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The 918 Spyder prototype is a new technological marvel combining extraordinary performance and eco-friendliness. The 918 Spyder is capable of a 0-62mph time of 3.2 seconds and 198mph top speed. The 918 was able to lap the Nurburgring Nordschliefe in 7 minutes and 30 seconds which is faster than the Porsche Carrera GT’s time.

Countless times I have had conversations with automotive enthusiasts and they seem to wonder why the manufacturers never put much emphasis on fuel economy as they did with performance over the past few decades. Well, now Porsche has sent a subtle message to that specific group of inquisitive minds with the introduction of the Porsche 918 plug-in hybrid concept capable of getting 78 miles to the gallon while hitting 62mph in 3.2 seconds.
