Toyota FT-86/FR-S Will Carry Scion Name w/$25,000 Price Tag

According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, the new Toyota FT-86 will be badged as a Scion with a price starting around $25,000 when it goes to the market. The name of the vehicle has been reported to be ‘FR-S’ will get a 2.5-liter version of the Subaru 4-cylinder boxer engine powering the rear wheels in the U.S. with other markets will likely get a 2.0-liter version.

While many of us are sick and tired of waiting for Gran Turismo 5 to be released, they have teased us to death with clips of the hot new cars to be included in the new game for PS3. The Toyota FT-86 is another item that we just cannot wait for. GT5 has released a trailer of the FT-86G, a “Sports” Concept version of the FT-86 Concept. The video below shows the FT-86G all trimmed out like you have never seen before in hi-resolution glory on the PlayStation 3. The engine still does not sound like the typical Subaru flat-4 but look at that front-mount intercooler! Hmmm. Enjoy the video and extremely high-resolution (8MP) images below!

I am not even sure why I bother posting the images of what some have claimed to be the Toyota FT-86 Prototype. This thing looks nothing like the images we posted last week. Obviously it looks more like a Subaru WRX and could only be a test mule for the new engine/platform that will be used in the joint venture of Toyota and Subaru’s FT-86. However, I do like the new rendered images of the Subaru version of this new coupe shown below.

No doubt that the upcoming PS3 game, Gran Turismo 5 will be a hit. But wouldn’t be an even greater hit if it included the new Toyota FT-86 Concept car that everyone is ranting and raving over this week? Well, the good news is, The Toyota FT-86 will be in the GT5 game. The bad news is, GT5 is not out yet. WE may have to wait until after Christmas to get our hands on it but then again, some sources say we will get GT5 beforehand. Toyota FT-86 Concept Revealed Before 2009 Tokyo Motor Show

Oh how I remember the days of the Toyota Corolla AE86. The new Toyota FT-86 Concept, recently revealed to the world, actually makes me think of the AE86, not because of the body code similarities (AE86 vs. FT-86, but offering an affordable rear-wheel-drive sports coupe. It is about time Toyota offered something exciting. They have not had anything exciting since the Supra and maybe the Celica GT-S, but that’s a whole other story.
