I am sure you would agree with me when I say that the new Ferrari 458 Italia and Audi R8 V10 are remarkable exotic vehicles out of the box. For those who want the ultimate in performance, and beyond, they take cars like the 458 and R8 to the guys at Underground Racing. If you have any doubt about what exactly you will get out of Underground Racing’s customized twin turbo modifications, then check out the videos below of the Twin Turbo (1000+ HP) R8 V10 and (700+ HP) 458 Italia tearing up some asphalt.

I have to admit, we are doing a little bandwagon jumping today by reposting the now famous video of Robert Himler, owner of an Underground Racing tuned Twin Turbo Lamborghini Gallardo, taking his mother for a thrilling ride. I have had my fair share of times that my mother asked me so kindly to “slow down” in my BMW M3. I could not imagine taking my mom for a ride in a 1,250-wheel-horsepower monster; it would probably scare the crap out of her just like Robert Himler managed to do to his mother in the video below. In all honesty, it looks as if Robert’s mother is a true sport and probably a fun person to be around just by the high-five reaction at the end of the video.

Yes, that really is flames shooting from the exhaust.

Most flamethrowers are fairly inelegant machines, consisting of two tanks, a spray nozzle and an ignition source. The best kind of flamethrowers, though, are built of carbon-fiber, aluminum and steel, and generally shoot flames only as a byproduct of incomplete combustion.

Take the twin-turbo Lamborghini Gallardo in the video below, for example. The car puts out some 1,250 horsepower at the wheels, and you don’t produce that kind of grunt without sucking lots of fuel (and air) through your engine. Not all of that fuel gets burned in the cylinders, especially when you blip the throttle repeatedly. Instead, unburned fuel gets sucked into the exhaust, where it later ignites with dramatic effect.

It was only a matter of time before someone took on forced induction on the new Ferrari 458 Italia. Who other than Underground Racing to tackle the task of slapping two turbos onto the most powerful production V8 engine to wear the prancing horse emblems.

No detailed specifications have been officially released on Underground Racing’s new twin-turbo Ferrari 458 Italia project. We should obviously expect some ridiculous numbers considering the stock 4.5-liter V8 found in the 458 already puts out 562 horsepower. With the help of two turbos, we may soon witness one of the fastest Ferraris on the street. You wont have to worry about hot glue lighting a fire under your ass, Underground Racing seems to have that covered in the form of some serious horsepower. I know I can’t wait for the performance numbers and video of this beast in action!

This morning I wake up to the news reporting that “Fast and Furious” has shattered box office records bringing in an estimated $72.5 million over the weekend holding the number 1 movie spot. This is farfetched if you consider what critics predicted for the 4th installment of the Fast and the Furious franchise of movies.

I would actually have to admit that this may have been the best Fast and Furious movie out of the other 3 because it actually had a decent plot.

In today’s economy when car dealerships are closing and the automotive industry seeks additional bailouts at the expense of tax payers, people seek weekend outlets that won’t get them deeper in debt. One outlet this weekend was to obviously watch Fast and Furious at the local movie theater. You may get mixed reviews from some after watching this movie but over-all it is good entertainment for the majority either way you put it.

Fast and Furious holds the best three-day opening for Universal Pictures movies ever even beating out movies from way back including “Jurassic Park” ($72.1 million). The new “Monsters vs. Aliens” even failed to keep up with the fast paced Fast and Furious movie bringing in only $59.3 million followed by “Watchmen” at $55.2 million.

Rejoining actors Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster and Michelle Rodriquez had a little to do with the success where this is their best opening ever for them as actors and actresses.

Another shocker is Fast and Furious now holds the best opening for any car-themed movie beating out the movie “Cars” which brought in $60.1 million on it’s opening weekend.

Supercars are now part of a new club in my opinion. Whether you agree with me or not, a new benchmark as has been set for performance cars to be called a “supercar”. The 200mph mark seems almost like a standard if a car wants to be in the once-sacred “supercar status”. I realize many supercars only reach speeds just shy of 200mph but when you consider the over-all performance of some vehicles and the astonishing capabilities, you might as-well welcome them to the 200mph club. With a few (pricy) bolt-ons or ECU programming you may be able to add another 10 to 20 mph to the top speed of many supercars anyway.

Our good friend, Chris Grosser, set out to Ochopee, Florida at a rented 2 mile long aviation runway just recently. The goal was to achieve top speed (in a supercar) during a series of runs in a controlled environment. I am not sure of anything that is more fun other than blasting down flat-out on a runway in a supercar. Below is the excerpt from Chris’s new blog. Goal: Super car top speed runs in a controlled environment

The sounds of cars flying by like rocket jets in excess of 200mph was nothing short of astonishing at yesterday’s 2 mile open runway event located at Ochopee, Florida.

The super car lineup consisted of cars that most people can only dream of, me included. Twin turbo Lamborghini Murcielagos and Gallardos filled the arena early in the morning when being unloaded from trailers at the venue.

A Saleen S7 brought massive amounts of attention from the fans. It’s not an everyday occurrence to view such cars in the wild, much less out on an endlessly long runway being pushed to its limits. It’s a thing of sheer beauty to view a car like the S7 being run to its full potential and not just sitting behind a glass showcase or velvet ropes like a coveted piece of art.

Two Robinson R44 helicopters even made brief appearances. Other visits from curious planes in the area made fly- bys to view the tens of millions of dollars in super cars from around the country.

Having been fortunate enough to take a quick ride in my good friend’s Bentley Continental GT and quickly surpassing the 175mph mark – the 200mph barrier in cars such as the Saleen S7, Twin turbo Murcielago, 1300 horsepower, LP640, Ford GT, or Twin Turbo “Underground Racing” Gallardo seem shockingly feasible.

Feasible is merely an understatement as new speed records were approached and surpassed throughout the day. 200 miles per hour quickly became the new standard for the super cars to strive for and many did just that.
