A rare piece of Hollywood and automotive history is set to make a big splash at this year’s Monterey Car Week. The Acura NSX Roadster, famously driven by Tony Stark in Marvel’s 2012 blockbuster The Avengers, will make its first public appearance in more than a decade. This one-of-a-kind creation will be on display at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, on August 15 as part of Acura’s celebration of the original NSX’s 35th anniversary.
Built specifically for the movie, the NSX Roadster blends fantasy and engineering in a way only a superhero’s ride could. Its styling took cues from the second-generation NSX Concept that debuted at the 2012 North American International Auto Show, but under the skin it began life as a well-traveled 1991 first-generation NSX with over 252,000 miles. The transformation was handled by Trans FX in Oxnard, California, where the car received a hand-crafted resin and fiberglass body, a 2-inch suspension drop, 18-inch wheels, and aftermarket seats. Designed at the Acura Design Studio in Los Angeles under then Creative Director Dave Marek, the roadster appears exactly as it did on screen, complete with its “Stark 33” license plate.
The Quail display will see the movie car showcased alongside other notable NSX models, including a 1995 NSX-R and the 1999 Zanardi Edition, as well as Acura’s all-new RSX Prototype, which previews the brand’s upcoming all-electric premium performance SUV.
Acura plans to auction the NSX Roadster for charity in 2026, giving fans and collectors the chance to own not just a unique supercar but a slice of cinematic history. The automaker will be taking early interest sign-ups during Monterey Car Week for those eager to bid when the time comes.
According to Marek, the decision to base the roadster on a first-gen NSX came down to reliability and performance, ensuring the car could handle the rigors of filming rather than serving only as a static prop. Thirteen years later, the car’s legacy lives on, both as a fan favorite and as a reminder of the NSX’s enduring place in performance car culture.
