Jay Leno’s 900-HP Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing Experience Proves America Still Builds a Proper Super Sedan

There is already something special about a Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing before anyone even touches the wrench drawer. From the factory, it delivers the kind of performance that feels almost rebellious in today’s market, pairing a supercharged V8 with the increasingly rare option of a manual transmission in a luxury sport sedan. That alone gives it instant credibility with enthusiasts. But when Jay Leno recently got behind the wheel of a modified example making an estimated 850 to 900 horsepower at the crank, it became an even clearer reminder of just how absurdly good this car really is.

This particular Blackwing takes Cadillac’s already wild formula and pushes it several steps further. The owner upgraded the 6.2-liter LT4 with a larger 2.6-liter Magnuson supercharger, added headers, and dialed in a tune that reportedly brings output to around 750 horsepower at the wheels. Those are serious numbers for anything wearing four doors and a luxury badge, but what makes the CT5-V Blackwing so compelling is that it still does not rely on theatrics to sell itself. It looks sharp and confident, yet remains understated enough to catch some people off guard until the loud pedal hits the floor.

That sleeper personality is a big part of the appeal. European rivals may bring plenty of prestige, and a Tesla Model S Plaid can obviously deliver shocking acceleration, but the Cadillac offers something more involving. It has the kind of balance enthusiasts keep begging automakers not to abandon, with real driver engagement, huge power, rear-wheel-drive dynamics, and the hardware to back it all up on a road course. Carbon ceramic brakes, serious suspension tuning, and a chassis that can switch from daily comfort to track-day focus make the Blackwing feel like one of the last truly complete performance sedans.

What stands out most from Leno’s drive is how usable all that performance still seems to be. Even with nearly 900 horsepower on tap, the car comes across as stable, predictable, and surprisingly approachable, which says a lot about the engineering underneath it. The fact that the owner is already thinking about pushing it even further only adds to the madness. In a world increasingly dominated by heavy, over-digitized performance machines, the CT5-V Blackwing continues to feel like a love letter to the old-school sport sedan formula, only now with enough power to embarrass just about anything brave enough to line up next to it.
