For years, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup and SUV have represented the extreme end of the off-road electric vehicle spectrum. They are massive, powerful, and packed with technology, but their sheer size has left some enthusiasts wondering what a more manageable version might look like. GMC appears to have asked the same question, revealing the Hummer X Pickup and Hummer X SUV concepts, a pair of mid-size electric off-roaders that could be exactly what many adventure seekers have been hoping for.

At first glance, the Hummer X concepts unmistakably belong to the Hummer family. The upright stance, rugged proportions, and commanding presence remain intact, but everything has been scaled down to a more approachable size. The Hummer X SUV rides on a 116-inch wheelbase, putting it almost directly in line with popular off-road staples like the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Meanwhile, the pickup version trims several inches from the wheelbase and overall length compared to the current Hummer EV truck, making it look considerably more trail-friendly.

The design team also used the concepts as an opportunity to experiment with new styling ideas. The SUV features a striking multi-tone appearance highlighted by a red canopy roof section, while both vehicles incorporate unique body-side cutouts that add visual character and help separate them from their larger production counterparts. Despite these fresh details, the overall design remains faithful to the bold and futuristic personality that has defined the modern Hummer revival.

Perhaps the most interesting elements are the technologies GMC chose to showcase. The concepts introduce a suite of digital features grouped under what the company calls the “Hummer Hub.” Even more intriguing is a trail-scouting drone that can launch ahead of the vehicle, survey obstacles in real time, and return automatically to its docking station. While it sounds like something straight out of a science fiction movie, it offers a glimpse into how future off-road adventures could become safer and more connected.

Unfortunately, enthusiasts shouldn’t get too excited about placing an order anytime soon. GMC has been clear that the Hummer X Pickup and SUV are not intended for production and instead serve as rolling laboratories for new ideas, technologies, and design directions. Still, the overwhelmingly positive reaction these concepts are likely to generate may prove that there is real demand for a smaller, more practical Hummer. If GMC ever decides to rethink its plans, the Hummer X could become one of the most compelling electric off-road vehicles in the market.
