Ineos Automotive is giving its rugged Grenadier a fresh look for 2027, and this time, the inspiration comes from the open water. The new Ineos Grenadier Helmsman Edition introduces a nautical theme to the boxy off-roader, complete with distinctive blue paint options, contrasting roof colors, and upgraded interior appointments. Available in both the Grenadier Station Wagon SUV and Quartermaster pickup configurations, the Helmsman is the first in a planned series of special editions inspired by the different environments these vehicles are designed to conquer. It’s an interesting way for Ineos to bring a little more personality to a vehicle that has always put toughness and capability ahead of flashy styling.

The biggest visual attraction is the Helmsman’s ocean-inspired color palette, particularly the striking Whiteout Blue metallic finish previously reserved for Ineos’ exclusive Arcane Works creations. Buyers can also choose Eldoret Blue or Scottish White, with optional contrasting roofs finished in either Inky Black or Scottish White. The nautical treatment goes beyond the paint, too. Every Helmsman receives a Dark Exterior Pack featuring a black grille, darkened skidplates, and matte black roof rails. The package also includes 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, privacy glass, exclusive Helmsman badging, and locking wheel nuts. Depending on whether buyers choose the Station Wagon or Quartermaster, they’ll also get a rear access ladder or a practical load bay tub. The result is a Grenadier that looks a bit more upscale while maintaining its unmistakably utilitarian character.

Inside, Ineos has made the Helmsman feel considerably more special without forgetting what makes the Grenadier appealing in the first place. Heated leather seats feature attractive oyster-colored inserts, creating a lighter, more sophisticated atmosphere than the typical rugged off-roader cabin. Carpet floor mats sit over the vehicle’s heavy-duty, washable rubber flooring, allowing owners to enjoy some added comfort while retaining the practicality needed after a muddy adventure. The Helmsman also comes equipped with Ineos’ Smooth Pack, bringing ambient interior lighting, front parking sensors, and additional electrical connection points. It’s a combination that should appeal to buyers who want something comfortable enough for everyday driving but still capable of tackling trails, towing boats, or hauling outdoor equipment.

That boating connection is precisely what Ineos had in mind when developing the Helmsman. According to the automaker, the special edition is intended to appeal to watersports enthusiasts, boat owners, and adventurous drivers who regularly find themselves traveling between paved roads and remote coastlines. Sagree Sardien, global sales director at Ineos Automotive, explained that the company wanted to combine popular features from previous special editions with new ocean-inspired colors to create a more distinctive 4×4. The Helmsman also arrives as Ineos reports three consecutive quarters of double-digit sales growth, giving the relatively young automotive brand another opportunity to attract buyers looking for something different from the usual luxury SUV offerings.

Orders for the 2027 Ineos Grenadier Helmsman are already open in the United Kingdom, where pricing starts at £70,995, or approximately $94,700 at current exchange rates. While U.S. pricing and availability have not been formally announced, the Helmsman is expected to have a limited production window before Ineos introduces the next special edition in its elements-inspired series. The company hasn’t revealed how many examples it plans to build or what theme will follow. Still, the Helmsman makes a compelling case for adding a little style and exclusivity to an already capable off-road vehicle. For buyers who appreciate the old-school appeal of the Grenadier but want something with a more distinctive personality, this nautical-inspired edition certainly looks like a fitting addition to the lineup.
