After winning the North American Car of The Year award this year, the new Acura Integra captivated many and drew some curiosity among lighthearted enthusiasts. Some of the more hardcore enthusiasts wondered how a vehicle with just 200 horsepower took the award, and they were quickly responded with the idea that not everyone is concerned about power. However, Acura saw an opportunity to appease a broader spectrum of enthusiasts by utilizing the bits of the new Honda Civic Type R to birth the new Acura Integra Type S, a 320-horsepower vehicle with premium touches.
We would be doing Acura a disservice by calling the new 2024 Integra Type S a luxury version of the Civic Type R, but many of us know that’s pretty much what we’re getting here. Though, the new Integra Type S looks to bring a little extra, starting with the power figure from its 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, which is slightly up from the new Civic Type R, as much as 5 ponies. Moreover, the suspension setup is different from the Civic Type R, where the Integra Type S gets a similar adaptive damper setup, but the drive mode settings dial up a more street-friendly adaptability. Here, Acura emphasizes more on being the “ultimate street performance” vehicle, possibly hinting at the Integra Type S being more of a livable daily commuter than the Civic Type R.
The 2024 Acura Integra Type S is wider than the ‘normal’ Integra, 2.8-inches wider, and is quite noticeable with the fender flares. All other attributes under the sleek and menacing-looking skin of the new Integra Type S are taken from the Civic Type R, such as its large Brembo brakes, 265-section Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires wrapping 19-inch wheels, and a triple-tipped center exhaust. You get the same slick 6-speed manual transmission in the Integra Type S, which is the only way it comes. Speaking of a 6-speed manual, the new Acura Integra Type S could be a legend in joining a select group of the very last vehicles with a manual-transmission that you can buy NEW with an internal combustion engine.
In all, the Acura Integra Type S weighs just 31 pounds more than the Civic Type R, coming to a total of 3,219 pounds. It’s possible that the extra bit of weight may come from some of the luxury aspects, such as the Integra Type S getting heated front seats, a color head-up display, and a 16-speaker ELS Studio 3D audio system. You can’t get those items on the Civic Type R!
Rounding up the equipment, you’ll find the welcoming 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster, 9-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, adaptive cruise control, lane-centering, and blind-spot monitors, which are all part of Acura’s latest AcuraWatch driver assistance features.
The interior features firmer seat bolsters over the normal Integra, Type S logos scattered throughout, and three interior colors to choose from (red, Orchid-white, and black).
For the exterior, there are seven colors to pick from, including some that are exclusive to the Integra Type S, such as the Tiger Eye Pearl gold color you see in some of these images.
Pricing for the new 2024 Acura Integra Type S has not been released yet, but we know that the on-sale target date is in June this year when production will be ramped up at the Marysville, Ohio plant, the same place the current Integra is built.
