Genesis G90 Wingback Performance Wagon Is The Big-Body Rebel Nobody Saw Coming

Genesis used its Magma World Premiere at Circuit Paul Ricard in France to talk about the future of performance, but it is the past that quietly crept back into the conversation. While the spotlight was supposed to shine on the mid-engined Magma GT halo car and the production-bound GV60 Magma EV, a bright orange long-roof parked nearby had wagon fans doing double takes. That car is the Genesis G90 Wingback concept, a full-size luxury performance wagon that imagines the BMW 7 Series Touring, Mercedes S-Class Estate, and Audi A8 Avant that never happened.

Based on the G90 flagship sedan, the Wingback trades the formal three-box profile for a stretched roofline and sleek wagon tail. Up front it wears a slimmer grille and more aggressive bumper with diamond-pattern intakes, while wider front fenders and serious performance tires fill out the arches. Out back is where it really leans into the long-roof look, with a reworked roofline flowing into a ducktail spoiler, a full-width LED light bar, an extended roof spoiler, and a deep rear diffuser wrapped around four exhaust tips.

Genesis has not published hard specs, but the Magma branding and the noticeably lower stance suggest this is more than a design exercise. Compared with the standard G90, the Wingback appears to sit closer to the pavement on larger wheels and likely upgraded brakes, hinting at chassis tuning aimed at high-speed stability rather than pure comfort. Given the current G90’s 3.5 liter twin turbo V6 powertrain options, it is reasonable to expect a hotter tune under the hood to match the visual intent of Genesis’s new Luxury High Performance direction.

The concept also fits into a broader G90 story that Genesis has been quietly sketching all year. It follows earlier G90 Coupe and Convertible concepts, painting a picture of a flagship family that stretches from chauffeur-grade sedan to grand touring coupe to this unapologetic performance wagon. At the same time, it occupies a niche the Germans have left untouched, effectively becoming the 7 Series, S-Class, or A8 wagon enthusiasts have imagined for decades but never seen in showrooms.

Whether Genesis actually builds the G90 Wingback is still an open question. With full-size luxury sedans struggling globally and wagons remaining a niche passion play, a full production run would be a bold move, and the brand is not making any promises yet. More likely, the concept serves as both an engineering flex and a statement of intent for the Magma sub-brand, previewing styling cues and attitude that will filter into future Genesis models. Still, for wagon enthusiasts, knowing the company is even thinking about a flagship long-roof like this is enough to keep the dream alive.
