Ford Recalls More Than 422,000 Trucks and SUVs Over Windshield Wiper Defect

Ford has issued another significant recall, this time involving more than 422,000 trucks and SUVs because of a windshield wiper issue that could create a serious safety concern in bad weather. The affected vehicles include certain 2021 to 2023 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator models, along with 2022 to 2023 Ford Super Duty pickups. According to the recall details, the problem can cause the wipers to behave erratically, stop working altogether, or in some cases detach from the vehicle. That is the sort of issue that sounds minor until you imagine getting caught in heavy rain with compromised visibility.

What makes this one especially notable is how broad the recall is across some of Ford’s most important large vehicles. The Super Duty lineup accounts for the biggest share of the total, which means a huge number of work trucks are part of the campaign. For owners of Expeditions and Navigators, it is another reminder that even premium family haulers are not immune from basic mechanical faults. In a market where trucks and full-size SUVs are expected to handle everything from jobsite duty to long family road trips, something as simple as a faulty wiper arm can quickly become more than an inconvenience.

The underlying issue appears to come down to the latch retention plate in the wiper arm assembly. If that component is defective, the arm may not stay properly seated, which can lead to inconsistent operation or complete separation. Ford reportedly has not linked the issue to any crashes or injuries so far, but the number of warranty claims tied to the defect suggests it is not an isolated problem. Even without reported accidents, this is exactly the kind of fault automakers have to move on quickly because the safety risk is obvious.

For now, Ford is still developing a permanent fix, but dealers are expected to inspect affected vehicles and replace faulty wiper arms at no charge. Owner notification letters are set to go out in mid-April, so anyone with an Expedition, Navigator, or Super Duty from the affected model years should keep an eye on the mailbox and check their VIN through the official recall lookup tools. It is never welcome news to hear your vehicle is part of a recall, but when the problem involves something as essential as windshield wipers, getting it addressed quickly is the smart move.
