What happens when an Italian coachbuilder takes one of the most beautiful sport sedans of the modern era and decides it would look even better without a roof or rear doors? You get something as wild and unexpected as this proposed Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio roadster from Castagna Milano. The boutique Italian design house has unveiled a dramatic two-seat convertible concept that transforms Alfa Romeo’s already impressive performance sedan into an exotic grand touring machine. The striking creation currently exists only as digital renderings, but Castagna Milano is prepared to turn the design into a real, one-of-a-kind automobile if a sufficiently enthusiastic and well-funded customer steps forward. Considering how much we already appreciate the Giulia Quadrifoglio and its combination of Italian style, exceptional handling, and thrilling performance, the possibility of an open-top version certainly has our attention.

One look at the proposed roadster reveals that Castagna Milano isn’t interested in simply removing the Giulia’s roof and calling it a day. Almost every exterior panel has been reimagined, creating a much more aggressive design with exaggerated proportions, sculpted bodywork, and a noticeably wider stance. Up front, the familiar Alfa Romeo triangular grille remains, although it’s surrounded by an entirely new fascia featuring dramatic LED headlights with fang-like vertical lighting elements. Large openings surrounding the headlights are designed to channel air toward the engine and brakes, while a prominent carbon-fiber section extends across the hood. The sharply defined front fenders and deeply sculpted sides give the car an almost futuristic appearance, a substantial departure from the graceful curves that have made the production Giulia such an attractive sedan. It’s certainly a bold interpretation of Alfa Romeo styling, and we suspect enthusiasts will have plenty to say about the design.

The transformation continues toward the rear, where dramatically flared fenders, a carved-out shoulder line, and slim LED taillights create a distinctive profile. Stacked exhaust outlets sit on either side of an aggressive rear diffuser, while an active rear spoiler is intended to provide additional aerodynamic assistance. Castagna Milano plans to construct the body almost entirely from carbon fiber, helping reduce weight while allowing for the unique shapes and proportions shown in the renderings. The interior would also receive an extensive makeover, incorporating wood trim and two types of leather for a more luxurious grand touring atmosphere. Interestingly, the front seats have been repositioned approximately 13 inches farther rearward, creating the long-hood, rearward-cabin proportions typically associated with classic Italian sports cars. With seating for just two passengers, the finished vehicle would be a far more intimate and specialized driving machine than the practical four-door Giulia from which it originated.

Fortunately, the proposed roadster wouldn’t sacrifice the mechanical personality that makes the Giulia Quadrifoglio so special. Castagna Milano intends to retain Alfa Romeo’s excellent twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 engine, producing 505 horsepower. That should be more than enough power for a lightweight, rear-wheel-drive convertible, particularly considering the coachbuilder’s ambitious target weight of approximately 3,130 pounds. If achieved, that would make the roadster roughly 700 pounds lighter than the conventional Giulia Quadrifoglio, potentially delivering an impressive improvement in acceleration, responsiveness, and overall driving dynamics. Of course, those figures remain theoretical until a production example is actually completed and tested. Still, the thought of a lighter, open-air Alfa Romeo powered by that fantastic V6 is enough to make us wish someone would commission one immediately.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time an Italian design house has attempted to transform the Giulia Quadrifoglio into something more exclusive. Back in 2022, Zagato introduced the stunning Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato, another coachbuilt interpretation featuring a shortened wheelbase and unique two-door bodywork. That particular creation leaned more heavily into Alfa Romeo’s traditional design language, while Castagna Milano’s proposal embraces a sharper, more contemporary aesthetic. Both demonstrate the tremendous potential of the Giulia’s underlying platform and the creativity that continues to thrive within Italy’s historic coachbuilding industry. There’s something particularly appealing about seeing these smaller design houses create vehicles that major manufacturers might never justify producing themselves.

For now, the Castagna Milano Alfa Romeo roadster remains an intriguing concept awaiting a customer willing to finance its transformation into reality. No official pricing has been announced, although a bespoke carbon-fiber-bodied creation of this nature would undoubtedly carry a substantial premium over the already expensive Giulia Quadrifoglio. We think there’s something refreshing about a project like this, especially as so much of the modern automotive industry focuses on electrification, SUVs, and increasingly standardized vehicle platforms. A handcrafted, two-seat Italian roadster with a 505-horsepower twin-turbo V6 represents a different kind of automotive passion, one centered on individuality, mechanical excitement, and striking design. Whether everyone agrees with Castagna Milano’s dramatic styling is another matter entirely, but we’d certainly welcome the opportunity to see this ambitious Alfa Romeo creation make the leap from computer-generated fantasy to a real car on the road.
