Subaru of America is conducting a recall of 118,723 SUVs and sedans in the United States due to a potential airbag deployment issue, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Wednesday.
The vehicles affected by the recall are certain models of the Outback and Legacy produced between 2020 and 2022. The NHTSA has identified a problem with a capacitor in the sensors for the Occupant Detection System (ODS), which may crack and short circuit. This malfunction could prevent the front passenger airbag from deploying properly in the event of a crash.
To address this safety concern, Subaru dealers will replace the ODS sensors located on the front passenger seat at no cost to the vehicle owners. This proactive measure aims to ensure the safety and well-being of the occupants of the affected Subaru vehicles.
