2027 Range Rover Electric Arrives With 542 Horsepower and 333 Miles of Range

After years of anticipation, the Range Rover is officially entering the fully electric era. The 2027 Range Rover Electric brings battery power to one of the luxury SUV world’s most recognizable nameplates, but Land Rover has resisted the temptation to reinvent its flagship simply because there is no engine under the hood. Instead, the company appears focused on making the electric version feel every bit like a Range Rover, complete with the familiar styling, lavish cabin, impressive off-road capability, and commanding road presence buyers have come to expect.

At first glance, it takes a keen eye to distinguish the Range Rover Electric from its gasoline-powered counterpart. Land Rover has retained the current generation’s wonderfully clean proportions while making subtle aerodynamic changes to the grille, wheels, and underbody. That approach makes plenty of sense for a vehicle whose design has become one of its strongest selling points. The cabin follows the same philosophy, largely preserving the upscale layout and minimalist character of the conventional Range Rover despite the sizable battery pack positioned beneath the floor.

Power comes from a dual-motor electric drivetrain producing 542 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque, with full-time all-wheel drive included as you would expect. Land Rover claims the Range Rover Electric can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds, which is serious speed for a large luxury SUV. Just as important, electric propulsion should complement the Range Rover’s traditional emphasis on refinement. Adjustable air suspension is standard, while the absence of combustion-engine noise promises to make an already quiet cabin feel even more isolated from the outside world.

Going electric has not turned the Range Rover into a pavement-only luxury cruiser, either. Land Rover has developed an electronic traction-management system capable of reacting to wheel slip in as little as 50 milliseconds, giving the drivetrain extremely quick control over how power reaches the ground. One-pedal driving can also become particularly useful away from pavement, allowing drivers to carefully regulate speed when tackling steep grades and technical terrain. Water crossings remain part of the equation as well, with the Range Rover Electric capable of wading through as much as 35 inches of water.

Of course, range and charging performance will matter far more frequently to most owners than rock crawling. The Range Rover Electric uses a roughly 119-kWh battery pack and carries an EPA-estimated driving range of 333 miles on a full charge. Its 800-volt electrical architecture supports DC fast charging at rates of up to 350 kW. Land Rover says a 10-to-80-percent charge can be completed in about 22 minutes under ideal conditions, while roughly 125 miles of range can be added in just 10 minutes. A NACS charging port comes standard, helping make the big electric SUV better suited to long-distance travel.

The technology extends beyond the drivetrain. Owners will be able to remotely interact with the Range Rover Electric through a smartphone app, including checking remaining range, adjusting cabin climate settings, and activating the onboard air purification system. Buyers will also have plenty of opportunities to personalize the interior. The First Edition introduces a Light Cloud cabin treatment featuring Land Rover’s Ultrafabric alternative to traditional leather, while genuine leather choices are expected for customers who prefer the more conventional Range Rover experience. The company’s Bespoke program will open the door to considerably more customization for buyers willing to spend accordingly.

That brings us to the price. The 2027 Range Rover Electric starts at $140,550, placing it well above the $115,750 starting price of the gasoline Range Rover but only $9,200 beyond the $131,350 P550e plug-in hybrid. A First Edition will initially be offered in colors including Belgravia Green, Santorini Black, and Varesine Blue. It certainly is not inexpensive, but affordability has never been central to the Range Rover formula. What matters more is whether electrification preserves the effortless luxury and genuine all-terrain ability that have made the Range Rover special for decades. On paper, this first electric interpretation looks less like a dramatic change of direction and more like the familiar Range Rover experience translated thoughtfully into the EV age.
