2027 Ford Expedition 30th Anniversary Edition Brings Mustang-Inspired Style to a Full-Size SUV

Ford is giving the Expedition a stylish nod to its history for 2027, rolling out a 30th Anniversary Appearance Package that celebrates three decades of the big family hauler. It is the kind of update that does not reinvent the SUV, but it does give longtime fans and upscale buyers something a little more distinctive. The headline feature is Blue Ember Metallic, a paint color previously associated with the Mustang Dark Horse, now making its way onto one of Ford’s largest and most practical vehicles.

What makes this package stand out is the way Ford mixes commemorative touches with an already premium trim level. The 30th Anniversary package is based on the Expedition Platinum with the Stealth Appearance package, but it swaps the usual darker cabin theme for a lighter Salt Crystal Gray interior that gives the SUV a more upscale, tailored look. Ford also adds unique 22-inch wheels with dark finishes, special center caps, and anniversary badging on the tailgate, door sills, and center console, all of which help make the package feel more thoughtful than a simple sticker-and-paint exercise.

Underneath the visual upgrades, the Expedition remains what buyers expect it to be: a large, capable, three-row SUV powered by a 400-hp twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 with all-wheel drive. That is probably the right move, because the Expedition does not need a dramatic mechanical shake-up to mark this milestone. What Ford seems to be doing here is leaning into the vehicle’s reputation as a refined, road-trip-ready machine while adding a little more showroom appeal for people who want their family SUV to feel special.

There is also something fitting about Ford celebrating the Expedition this way. Since arriving for the 1997 model year, the Expedition has carved out its own place in the full-size SUV world, even while facing heavy competition from GM’s Tahoe and Suburban empire. It may not always dominate the conversation, but it has remained an important piece of Ford’s utility lineup, and recent sales show there is still solid demand for a roomy, body-on-frame SUV that can do a little bit of everything.

Pricing has not been announced yet, but this will almost certainly be a high-spec Expedition aimed at buyers who do not mind paying extra for exclusivity and presentation. With the previous Platinum Stealth model already cresting $80,000, it is reasonable to expect this anniversary treatment to push even higher. For buyers in this segment, that probably will not be a dealbreaker. If anything, the special edition gives Ford a chance to remind people that even in a market flooded with luxury SUVs, the Expedition can still make an occasion out of being big, comfortable, and unapologetically American.
