Honda has just issued a recall for 2003 model year Accords, Civics and 2003-2004 year Elements for a potentially defective ignition interlock switch. The potential defect in the ignition switch may allow drivers to remove the key without the transmission being placed in into park. This could allow the vehicle to move without operator input potentially causing an accident from a rolling vehicle.
A total of 384,000 vehicles are affected by this new recall. Owners of these vehicles that have immediate questions in regards to this recall are advised to contact Honda’s customer service at 800-999-1009. In the meantime as we await the Honda dealerships ramping up their supplies to resolve the issue, it would be a good idea to make sure your effected vehicle is securely in park with the parking brake set firmly when parking your vehicle.
