Making quite the convincing case for a new all-electric Tesla Model X, Elon Musk took to the stage yesterday showing off something nearly revolutionary with its motorized Falcon Wing doors and power-movable seating configurations for up to 7 passengers. The new Tesla Model X is sure to turn some heads in more ways than one featuring a 250+ mile range and a “Bioweapon Defense Mode” that enables use of a HEPA filter to protect the interior occupants against bacteria, foreign gases and anything else breathable that you may have seen kill people on those apocalyptic movies. Basically, the feature allows medical-grade air to fill the cabin, no matter what is going on outside.
The Tesla Model X is a technological marvel, one that uses sensors that see through its metal-skinned gullwing-styled Falcon Doors to adjust how the doors open to avoid closely parked cars next to the vehicle. The Model X is even capable of towing 5,000 pounds while carrying 7 people and their luggage – just don’t expect to get that full 250 mile range is such a condition.
The new Tesla Model X will feature several options, including the now-famous ludicrous speed upgrade, Autopilot and two trims to start off: 90D with a range of 257 miles and 0-60 mph time of 4.8 seconds, and a P90D with a 250 mile range and 0-60 mph time of 3.2 seconds with the Ludicrous Speed Upgrade. Both models will have a top speed of 155 mph and all-wheel-drive.
Yes, the future is here and the Model X is the latest electrified weapon in the arsenal of Tesla – in a utilitarian size and function. Early adopters are expected to pay around $130,000 for the top-spec Signature Edition. Inside Model X
Model X Falcon Wing doors offer unprecedented convenience, entry, and maneuverability for everyday life. They provide seamless ingress and egress into the second and third row. No longer do parents have to cantilever themselves to avoid hitting their child’s head on the roof as they place them in a car seat.
The double-hinged Falcon Wing doors open up then out, requiring only 30 cm of space on the side of the vehicle. Each door is equipped with capacitive, inductive, and sonar sensors to monitor surroundings and avoid contact with obstacles around the car, making it possible to park in tight spots.
The industry’s first auto presenting door automatically opens and closes as the driver approaches or exits Model X. Why should the driver ever need to touch the door?
Monopost seats move independently, sliding and tilting forward and back. They allow passengers easy access to the third row and give them plenty of foot room when they sit down.
