New Car Preview: 2023 Genesis G90

The Genesis brand is making some major strides and gaining proper recognition as a contender in the automotive luxury field. With each new Genesis vehicle, there’s talk followed by those who get to experience a new age of luxury that undercuts the price of its targeted competition. As yet another jab deep into the luxury market, Genesis unleashes several new details of their flagship sedan, the new 2023 G90.

The new 2023 Genesis G90 is redesigned for the model year bringing a new take on luxury in the confines of a sedan, something that’s being overshadowed by countless sport and crossover utility vehicles.

What the new G90 brings to the table are many parts from the collective parts bin of Genesis but they do it in a clever way where most will welcome the unique approach. First, Genesis uses their latest 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine mated to the familiar 8-speed automatic transmission to power the rear wheels or all four through an advanced all-wheel-drive system. Power output is 375 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque, the same as found in the new G80 sedan.

Keeping things planted to the ground with luxurious ride quality is the job of a new available air suspension system that will lower the vehicle at highway speeds for better aerodynamics or raise it for challenging terrain. The system will be coupled with a Preview-Electronic Control system that reads the road ahead as much as 100 meters to reduce shock by quickly adjusting the dampening according to the severity of an approaching bump or dip in the road. There will also be four-wheel steering where the rear wheels can turn up to four degrees for sharper turns (reduce the turning radius) with an opposite turn from the front wheels at lower speeds, or ease of changing lanes at higher speeds with the wheels turning at the same angle as the front.

Furthering the purpose of a full-size luxury sedan, the G90 will be well suited to handle chauffeuring duties and provide specialized modes that make adjustments to items like the brake pedal for more or less sensitivity as to avoid upsetting passengers. To fit the mold of a chauffeuring sedan, the G90 will also be offered in a long-wheelbase model that features the 3.5-liter turbo V6 coupled with a 48-Volt setup for an electric supercharger that feeds compressed air for additional power.

The interior will have soft-touch surfaces everywhere, and when it’s not a soft area there will be eloquent trim pieces and the proper control interfaces, such as a rotary knob for the gear selector and another for controlling the infotainment system fed through a large 12.3-inch touchscreen. We expect Genesis to expand upon the 3D digital gauge cluster that we experienced in the new GV80 SUV along with the ability to receive over-the-air updates.

To elevate the luxury appeal even further, there will be an air fragrance system, a 23-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, massaging seats, deployable foot rests, automatic-closing doors, and a fingerprint scanner in place of using a physical key fob that will recognize the driver and prompt a user profile to enact the driver’s seat memory and preset settings. The rear seats will get their own available 8-inch armrest touchscreen for to control climate, lighting, power window curtains, and massage settings. There is also the availability of 10.2-inch electric rear-seat touchscreen monitors on the back of the first-row seats to utilize media feeds independently of the two monitors. The front passenger seat can also be automatically adjusted forward for extended legroom and use of the deployable leg rest for the rear left seat. Bringing a few items to the table that are completely out of the ordinary, Genesis adds UV-C LED lamps in the rear seat armrest to sterilize items for passengers when driving. There’s also an antibacterial Silver Zinc Zeolite material that prevents the growth of bacteria and microorganisms on areas that are not real leather. Finally, the air filter is an antibacterial element that’s coupled with a photocatalyst module to sterilize circulated air.

The design of the new 2023 G90 properly fits the new design language from the Genesis brand with the unique and striking double running light elements up front and to the side markers. Out back, the LED tails take a new approach with the running lines of light that put an end to the coupe-like sloping roof and trunk lid. Genesis is making a bold but agreeable luxury statement here and we can’t wait to get our hands on the new G90 once it drops sometime in 2022 as a 2023 model. As far as pricing, we expect the G90 to start slightly above its outgoing model’s price of $74,995, which will still be a lot less than competitors like the new BMW 7-Series or Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Shortly after the 2023 Genesis G90 makes it to dealerships, we expect a G90 Electric Vehicle to follow that doesn’t depart too far from the new design that you see here.
