The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse is set to hit the market in early 2024, boasting a range of new updates spanning from a new powertrain, updated styling, and new tech.

One of the most noticeable changes in the 2024 Traverse is its redesigned exterior. Chevrolet has taken a departure from the minivan-like appearance of the current model and opted for a more rugged and truck-like design. The front end now resembles the Tahoe, and both the front and rear feature stylish LED lights. Depending on the chosen trim, the appearance of the Traverse will vary.

Speaking of trims, the 2024 lineup introduces a new trim called the Z71. Designed for some light off-roading adventures, this model comes equipped with several features that enhance its off-road capabilities. These include a trim-specific twin-clutch all-wheel drive system, increased ground clearance, specially-tuned dampers with hydraulic rebound control, all-terrain tires, a unique front fascia for improved approach angles, red tow hooks, hill descent control, and a special “Terrain” mode in the drive mode selector. However, it’s important to note that the Traverse remains primarily a three-row crossover, so while it can handle mild off-road terrains, it shouldn’t be expected to perform as a hardcore off-roader.

The powertrain of the 2024 Traverse has undergone a significant change. It bids farewell to the previous 3.6-liter V6 engine and welcomes an all-new 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This new engine produces 315 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, marking an improvement in both power and performance. The Traverse now utilizes an 8-speed automatic transmission, replacing the previous 9-speed auto. Front-wheel drive comes standard, with all-wheel drive available as an option. The maximum towing capacity remains a respectable 5,000 pounds.

For those seeking a sportier driving experience on the road, the RS model is the top choice. It features a unique suspension setup designed to provide a sportier ride and handling. Additionally, the RS model sports 22-inch wheels and incorporates the sporty appearance elements commonly found in other Chevy RS models.

When it comes to interior space and family-friendliness, the Traverse continues to excel. The cabin remains spacious, catering to the needs of families. All trims come equipped with a standard 17.7-inch infotainment display, complemented by an 11-inch instrument cluster display. Chevy has retained the physical buttons and knobs for climate controls, ensuring ease of use. Notably, the gear selector has been relocated from the center console to a stalk location similar to that found in Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Furthermore, Chevy has introduced a new pass-through console design, increasing the available storage options.

Seating configuration options vary depending on the trim level. The base LS model offers an 8-seat setup, while all other trims come with a 7-seat layout featuring second-row captain’s chairs as standard. However, if you prefer the 8-seater configuration in a higher trim, it is only available as an option on the LT trim. The RS model stands out from the rest with its power-folding third-row seats, which come standard.

In terms of safety features, the Traverse is well-equipped. It comes with a comprehensive set of driver assistance systems as standard, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, automatic front and rear emergency braking, blind-spot warning, and more. Notably, Chevy has introduced an enhanced “Buckle to Drive” feature, which requires both the driver and passenger to buckle up before driving. Additionally, the Traverse includes a rear seat belt reminder that chimes if anyone in the second or third row is not wearing a seatbelt. Optional Super Cruise driving assistant technology will also be available on certain trim levels.

Pricing for the new 2024 Chevy Traverse is not yet available, but we expect it to be just slightly above the previous year as it will still be manufactured at GM’s Lansing assembly plant.
