Hyundai Motor Company showcased its commitment to high-performance electric vehicles (EVs) with the unveiling of the ‘IONIQ 5 N NPX1’ concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2024. This concept model is equipped with prototype N Performance Parts, signaling Hyundai’s dedication to enhancing the ownership experience of high-performance EVs.

The N Performance Parts initiative, initiated in 2019, aims to provide customers with high-quality tuning components. Originally focused on internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles like the Elantra N, i30 N, and i20 N, Hyundai N is now extending its offerings to include specialized tuning components for all-electric N models, starting with the IONIQ 5 N.

The ‘NPX1’ concept model serves as a preview of the N-specific enhancements that will soon be available for purchase from a catalog of N Performance Parts. These enhancements include a range of aerodynamic components such as a carbon front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser, and a rear wing spoiler. The concept model also boasts lightweight hybrid carbon wheels, high-performance brake pads, and lowering springs to further enhance its performance. Inside, the interior is upgraded with Alcantara material and racing bucket seats.

Hyundai N has ambitious plans for the production of these prototype N Performance Parts. The goal is to refine and develop these components for mass production, with sales expected to commence in 2024. The IONIQ 5 N will be the starting point for this expanded offering, with Hyundai N aiming to make N Performance Parts available for all N models.

Joon Park, Vice President of N Brand Management Group, expressed Hyundai’s forward-looking approach to the high-performance EV era. In addition to the physical tuning parts, the company is actively working on software customization. This includes features such as sound and vehicle calibration through Over-the-Air (OTA) updates. These advancements aim to open up a new category of EV customization, providing an exciting prospect for the tuning community.
