Ram has unveiled its latest offering in the electric vehicle (EV) market with the introduction of the Ram ProMaster Electric Van. This marks the brand’s first fully electrified vehicle and a significant move towards providing innovative and sustainable mobility solutions. The ProMaster EV is part of Stellantis’ Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan, which involves a substantial investment in electrification and software development to meet the growing demand for battery-electric vehicles.
The key features of the Ram ProMaster EV include a targeted range of up to 162 miles in city driving, making it suitable for various commercial applications. The EV will be available in two mission-specific configurations, catering to both delivery and cargo models. The cargo model offers flexibility with two configurations, including different cargo lengths and wheelbases.
The ProMaster EV is powered by a 110-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery pack, delivering 268 horsepower and 302 lb.-ft. of torque. The electric drive module (EDM) ensures front-wheel-drive capability, enhancing commercial capability and performance. The battery is strategically positioned under the floor, maintaining cargo volume and allowing for efficient packaging.
One notable aspect is the ProMaster EV’s fast-charging options, with Level 3 DC charging capabilities ranging from 50kW to 150 kW. Additionally, a Level 2 wall box charger with up to 11 kW is available. The vehicle’s charging port features illuminations and audible alerts to confirm the connection during charging.
The ProMaster EV is designed to meet the specific needs of commercial customers, particularly in the delivery space. The delivery model includes features such as a rear roll-up door, anodized aluminum construction for weight optimization, and advanced fleet management technologies like Ram Telematics. The Telematics system provides insights into vehicle location, driving behavior, and real-time diagnostics.
Ram emphasizes the ProMaster EV’s adaptability and customization options, making it suitable for various vocational and delivery applications. The van offers best-in-class cargo space, interior cargo height, low load-floor height, and cargo width between wheel wells. The vehicle’s design allows for easy upfitting, with standard upfitter electrical connectors and an integrated cab configuration.
In terms of safety and security, the ProMaster EV boasts an extensive list of features, including Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning, Crosswind Assist, rear backup camera, and more. Optional features include Intelligent Speed Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Active Drive Assist for Level 2 automated driving capability.
The ProMaster EV also stands out with its advanced technology features, including the Uconnect 5 system with a 10.1-inch touchscreen. The system offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Alexa In-Vehicle Assistant, and simultaneous wireless connectivity for two Bluetooth-enabled devices. The EV includes a Charging Station Locator and EV Dynamic Trip Prediction to enhance the overall user experience.
