The 2024 Mazda CX-90 and its plug-in-hybrid-electrified counterpart, the CX-90 PHEV, have recently earned prestigious TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, marking a significant achievement for Mazda’s safety standards.
To clinch the TOP SAFETY PICK+ accolade in 2023, a vehicle must meet stringent criteria set by the Institute. These criteria include securing good ratings in various safety tests, encompassing the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, original moderate overlap front, and updated side tests. Furthermore, the vehicle must be equipped with headlights rated as acceptable or good across all trims and feature a front crash prevention system that attains advanced or superior ratings in both daytime and nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations.
In contrast, the lower-tier TOP SAFETY PICK award requires an acceptable rating in the updated side test and advanced or superior performance in the daytime pedestrian test.
The 2024 Mazda CX-90 and CX-90 PHEV have successfully met all these stringent requirements, earning them the prestigious “plus” distinction. One of the key contributing factors to their success is the inclusion of a standard front crash prevention system that has garnered superior ratings in both daytime and nighttime evaluations. Additionally, the S, S Premium, and S Premium Plus trims of the CX-90 come equipped with LED projector headlights rated as “good,” further enhancing their safety features. Other trims of the CX-90 and all trims of the CX-90 PHEV feature headlights rated as “acceptable.”
We recently reviewed the new Mazda CX-90 and were well pleased with the new vehicle and all that it has to offer. These accolades mark a significant milestone for Mazda, as the 2024 CX-90 models become the first in the brand’s lineup to earn the higher-tier TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards. Prior to this, six other Mazda vehicles had earned the 2023 TOP SAFETY PICK awards, showcasing Mazda’s commitment to enhancing safety across its vehicle lineup. The introduction of the CX-90 and CX-90 PHEV continues to reinforce Mazda’s dedication to delivering safe and reliable vehicles to its customers.
