BMW’s New HATCHling: Front-Wheel Drive BMW 0-Series

It is no surprise that BMW is entering into the world of Front-Wheel Drive vehicles especially considering BMW releasing information on their latest survey revealing 80% of BMW 1-Series owners think it is front-wheel drive . BMW’s new front-wheel drive car is expected to be called the 0-Series and should fill the gap between their MINI cars and the 1-Series. The 0-Series should satisfy the buyers who are looking for a small car with a premium/semi-luxury feel.

The 0-Series is expected to be built off of the next generation MINI platform. Engine choice may range from a 1.5-liter 3cyl turbo diesel on up to a 200+ hp 4cyl complete with the aid of an electronic differential and active damping.

This will be BMW’s first ever front-wheel drive vehicle. The whole idea of a front-wheel drive BMW will not sit well with many automotive enthusiasts and to others it will be something they have been waiting for to compensate for that gas guzzling E60 BMW M5 in the garage. The 0-Series is expected to be matched up against the Audi A1 and other premium compact vehicles. Seems every vehicle manufacturer will have some type of “little” car in the near future.

“80% of BMW 1-Series owners think it is front-wheel drive”… Great job educating your customers there BMW marketing/sales dept (sarcasm implied)…that sad statement just confirms how anemic and underpowered the BMW 1-series is…it’s so slow I thought it was build on the prius platform! Ah that’s it, BMW was shooting for a RWD/FWD hybrid! Genius! LOL
