2009 Mazda Tribute Hybrid Test Drive – “SUV Versatility With Compact Car MPG”
While gas prices continue the fall, the smart money is still being played in the high mpg rated vehicles. First introduced in 2008, the 2009 Mazda Tribute Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) gives back 30+ mpg with all the flexibility and comfort found in a SUV.
The 2009 Tribute hybrid comes with a new 2.5 liter iVCT 4-cylinder gasoline engine with Atkinson-cycle combustion for improved efficiency, and produces 153hp. At speeds over 25mph, when maximum acceleration is desired, the 70-kWatt electric traction motor also provides an added boost to the drive wheels. Also new for 2009 are front and rear stabilizer bar, power-assisted ventilated front disc and rear drum brakes, automatic on/off headlights, standard satellite radio, steering wheel audio controls and Dynamic Stability Control, Roll Stability Control and Traction Control.

Time for investors to bail out Toyota? By no means, not yet anyway. Even if Toyota’s earnings drop by fifty percent this year, Toyota operating profits are still likely to be around $10 billion. And with a strong balance sheet, and in excess of more than $20 billion in liquidity, and a barn full of new car initiatives, Toyota is in a better position than other automakers to survive economic storm. “When the Toyota executives finally make the decision to do something, they can go ahead and do it without having to arrange financing,” says Andrew Phillips, an analyst at KBC Securities in Tokyo.

Cars are just getting safer. That pretty much sums it up. Although work still needs to be done (cough cough Chrysler) many automakers are very proud today as a number of new vehicles win a Top Safety pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
With all of the added safety features including electronic stability control have been contributing factors in making new cars safer than they have ever been. Below is a video from CBS and a press release from the IIHS discussing some of the 72 new Top Safety Picks.

Oh the Joy of this Christmas season and “One of your favorite things”, the 2010 Toyota Prius. The newest edition of America’s #1 gas miser. Below is a video of a commercial for the newest 3rd generation Toyota Prius which we should see introduced at the 2009 NAIAS (2009 North American Auto Show) in Detroit next year.
Just like the design cues in the image of our Lexus HS250h post, it should share many components if not the majority of them with its more expensive Lexus-sister.
