Lazy People Look Here: Ford’s Active Park Assist System In Action

December 31, 2008 by Larry

Is it just me or we getting lazier in America… so lazy that we need a freaking car to parallel park for us? Good grief people, we need to pay for a car to park for us? What’s next, a car that drives itself so we don’t have too? HAHA, let me keep my mouth shut before I put a foot in it.

Here is Ford’s new Active Park Assist system demonstrated in the video below. It is very reminiscent to the Lexus/Toyota parking system which I have included a video of also below. Do you think we will see more of this in the near future or should the automotive companies put more of a focus on saving some gas or maybe NOT needing a bailout?

Super Bowl XLIII Commercial: 310hp Hyundai Genesis Coupe

Update (Super Bowl XLIII Hyundai Genesis Commercial Posted here): Edit Your Own: Hyundai Genesis Superbowl Commercial

He goes long… Touchdown! Hyundai scores big with commercial spots during the upcoming Super Bowl XLIII. In the commercials will be the all new 310ho Hyundai Genesis Coupe. Of course guys watching the Super Bowl will undoubtedly be interested in a new “muscle car” but what about a Hyundai?

This is not your every-day run-of-the-mill Hyundai here folks. This is the Genesis Coupe packing 310 ponies through the rear wheels.

What a way to target the new Genesis Coupe potential buys, place not one, but many commercials during THE SUPER BOWL.

Hints are circulating that the commercials will have championship winning driver Rhys Millen, who is famous for drifting and a Pike’s Peak world record, driving a new Hyundai Genesis Coupe performing precise driving maneuvers with some “hip” music playing in the background. The course used will be Road Atlanta so we expect this one to be all-so-familiar if we are into the SCCA scene. Maybe Hyundai will offer a SCCA membership like Subaru does… maybe?!?!

Speculation is that Hyundai will be paying about $6 million for one minute of advertising the new Hyundai Genesis Coupe. So in other words, this car better sell!

Human Powered Car: The Green People-Powered Car of the Future

December 31, 2008 by Malcolm

The Human Powered Car which is powered by you and me is made out of recycled plastics. Basically it is an electric vehicle that utilizes rowing handles that generate the electricity. The vehicle can also run on its own without your power via the batteries supplying the energy. But if you wish to make it all the way home you may have to start rowing. Other creations of this concept have been made in the past as demonstrated in the videos below. Just think, if a large portion of America has these things we would not be fighting a battle to combat obesity or some health issues from a result of a “lazy” culture. Even the kids could help power the family car. Unfortunately your boss may know if you were running late, he or she will see the sweat running down your head.

Mercedes Benz is starting to go hard core with the addition of their 7-speed dual clutch transmission packed inside the new Mercedes Bens SL63 AMG. That’s right, no more torque converter for Benz’s latest SL63 AMG. As Jay explains in the video it seems several car makers are headed in the dual clutch direction. As Jeremy Clarkson says, “the floppy paddle gear box”.

2010 Jaguar XF Diesel S: 35MPG While Producing 443 lb-ft of Torque

December 29, 2008 by Larry

For a big luxury car how many can you say has a serious punch and gets decent gas mileage at the same time? Even the Lexus LS Hybrid can’t do this. The new Jaguar XF Diesel European version gets 35 MPG (miles per gallon) while still able to tote around this big 4 door with 443 foot pounds of torque on tap. The new 2010 Jaguar XF Diesel can now run with the likings of the BMW’s twin-turbo diesel. The new dual turbo 3.0 liter with 240hp or 275 hp S trim model and up to 443 lb-ft of torque will be able to propel this new big cat from 0-60 in about 5.9 seconds and top out at around 155mph. If you are not paying attention that is a bit faster than the US versions of the 4.2-liter gasoline powered V8’s sold in America.

For all these years manufacturers have put so much emphases on performance and now it seems time to move that focus to economy but why not have your cake and eat it too.

Cars and Coffee: An Eclectic Mix of True Car Culture around the World

December 26, 2008 by Malcolm

In a recent Nascar broadcast a Cars and Coffee show in Irvin, CA was portrayed. As you can see from the videos (below after the jump) the Cars and Coffee show has hundreds of true car enthusiasts in attendance. They are not there to get an award and they do not have to worry about registering for an event. They just hop in their pride and joy sitting in the garage and drive it down to the location designated for the local Cars and Coffee meet.

Cars and Coffee events have popped up all over the world and have caught on in many locations including the home of Automotive Addicts, Jacksonville, Florida. The Cars and Coffee idea seems to have really taken off in several other locations ranging from Irvine, CA – Jacksonville, FLOrlando, FLLas Vegas, NVMinneapolis, MN – Germany – The Netherlands and many many more locations around the world. Although it is said there is no “official” person or group that started idea of Cars and Coffee, some will claim that they where the “ONE” to spark the idea in a particular area. Either way, someone in each area was bold enough to spread “the word” so that they could reach hundreds of local gear heads to meet up at a particular location for a “free car show”.

2009 Lexus LX570 Test Drive

December 26, 2008 by Malcolm

With the economy in a down-turn and gas prices also on their way down, the trend now turns to ‘crossover’ vehicles that combine sedan-like driving dynamics, higher mpg, with the ability to carry up to 8-passengers.  While body-on-frame sport utilities have lost a significant share of pie, full-size luxury sport utilities are still moving out of the dealer’s showrooms, but not as fast as before.  The demand for full-size luxury sport utilities still remains significant as corporations, limousine services, wealthy large families, couples and single individuals still want the luxury, capability, large carrying, and towing capacity of full-size sport utilities.

Lexus introduced the all-new, more powerful, more capable and more luxurious LX 570 in 2008.  A new optional luxury package and other enhancements for 2009 will keep this luxurious 8-passenger model at the top of its segment.
