Mercedes-Benz is recalling 310,667 vehicles in the U.S. because a small switch inside the driver’s door lock could create a potential rollaway risk. The recall affects several popular models from the 2020 through 2026 model years, including certain CLA, A-Class, C-Class, CLE, GLA, GLB, and GLC vehicles. While the issue does not mean the door lock itself stops working, it does involve a sensor tied to how the vehicle detects whether the driver’s door has been opened.
The problem centers on a microswitch inside the driver’s door lock assembly. According to recall documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, moisture may enter the switch housing and eventually cause corrosion. If that switch fails, the vehicle may not properly recognize that the driver’s door is open. That matters because some Mercedes-Benz models use that door-opening signal to automatically engage the electronic parking brake or Auto Park function.
In the wrong situation, that failure could prevent the vehicle from securing itself automatically, increasing the chance that it could roll away. Mercedes says owners may notice related warning signs through certain comfort features, such as the radio staying on after exiting the vehicle. Importantly, the automaker was not aware of any actual rollaway incidents at the time the recall was filed, but the potential safety risk was enough to prompt a large-scale recall.
The affected group includes some 2020-2021 CLA models, 2019-2022 A-Class models, 2022-2023 C-Class models, 2024 CLE models, 2020-2026 GLA and GLB models, and 2023-2024 GLC models. Mercedes-Benz will notify owners on or before September 18, 2026, and dealers will replace the driver’s door lock with an updated microswitch that meets the proper durability standards at no cost to owners.
