When pressed, just about everyone I know will omit naming Kia as having a luxury sedan, most will never even voice the Kia brand and full-size luxury in the same sentence. However, for many years, Kia has had the K900 luxury sedan quietly winning over a small select group of people who thrive off of finding an affordable option to luxurious transportation.

The latest new 2019 Kia K900 is redesigned for the model year marking its second generation for a vehicle that most have no idea it exists. While its existence may be a mystery for most, the K900 surprisingly delivers on the goods that you expect out of a large luxury sedan.
While sedans are attempting to retain their significance in a world where crossovers and SUVs are the more popular options, the K900’s redesign comes at a difficult time. Facing the apparent adversity, the K900 attempts to turn the tables to offer up a spacious and genuinely luxurious cabin laced with a plethora of soft-touch surfaces, leather, and appeasing trim pieces throughout. Taking another stab at the luxury market, Kia has its work cut out. The K900 does justice to surprise many as it has for myself in spending a week with the Korean-branded luxury sedan.
Powered by a familiar powertrain, one found in the likings of the Kia Stinger, up brand Genesis G70, and other not-so-distant relatives of the brand, the Kia K900 has the proper chops to keep pace on the road. The K900, with its single trim level, gets the 3.3-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine that delivers a healthy 365 horsepower and 376 ft-lbs of torque that feels stronger than it states on paper. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and sends power to all four wheels as a standard feature.
Overall, performance of the K900 is respectable for a full-sized luxury sedan, at times feeling more sure-footed than some of its competition. However, the K900 exhibits a bit of lofting around, and the Sport drive mode only subtly firms up the suspension to keep unwanted body motions in check. The K900 is not sporty by any sense of the imagination, but it does get the job done in a respected way when you need to get up to speed, making it to 60 mph from a standstill in just 5.5 seconds.
Fuel economy is mostly consistent and somewhat disappointing, considering the power output of the K900. I mostly saw the same figures as the EPA estimates of 18 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 21 mpg highway.
There is much to like about the K900 with its mostly unique styling that fits the mold of a luxury sedan with the expected exterior LED lighting, classy 19-inch wheels wrapped with wider rubber out back than in front, and an overall eye-pleasing look to its softly sculpted body lines.
Inside of the new 2019 K900 is a cabin that somewhat departs from the traditional Kia look. Much of the switchgear in the K900 is adorned with a luxurious touch instead of those found in other Kia vehicles. There is just enough equipment, that mostly comes as standard, in the new K900 to properly fit the classification of a luxury sedan. The impressive aspects of the cabin include the 12.3-inch LCD instrument cluster that acts as a color camera display for Kia’s trick blind-spot view monitor that activates when signaling to give you a live view of your blind-spot. The full blanket of active safety features is also a comforting part of the K900’s overall luxury theme, as is the tri-zone climate control and rear outboard power seat adjustments.
While the new 2019 Kia K900 may not attract anyone from the well-established selection of luxury brands when shopping for a full-sized sedan, it will gain the attention of those looking for hidden deals in unlikely places. With that, the 2019 Kia K900 will only set you back $64,895 fully optioned, which undercuts all of its competition by thousands.
