Acura is set to make a significant move in the electric vehicle market with the debut of the 2024 Acura ZDX electric SUV. The much-anticipated world premiere is scheduled for August 17th at the Monterey Car Week in California.

The 2024 Acura ZDX will be the brand’s first all-electric production vehicle, and it is slated to hit the market early next year. Customers will have two options to choose from: the base ZDX and the ZDX Type S, a performance-oriented variant. These models are part of Acura’s efforts to embrace the shift towards electrification and sustainable mobility.

To develop the ZDX, Acura collaborated with General Motors, leveraging the US automaker’s advanced Ultium batteries and drive units, which are also utilized in the Honda Prologue electric vehicle. This partnership ensures that the ZDX will benefit from cutting-edge electric powertrain technology and performance.

Beyond its electric powertrain, the 2024 Acura ZDX will be equipped with intuitive technologies as standard features. Notably, it will integrate Google services, providing drivers with access to the latest apps and functions. Additionally, Acura will introduce a high-end Bang & Olufsen luxury audio system for an unparalleled in-car audio experience.

From the teaser photo released in their press release, it’s evident that the Acura ZDX Type S variant will possess a sportier body kit compared to the regular version. The front end showcases Acura’s signature Diamond Pentagon grille, accented by an LED bar and a prominent Acura badge at the center. The horizontal headlights carry the typical Acura DRL light signature, and the hood displays three sharp creases, adding a touch of modernity to the design.

The ZDX’s front end design bears a resemblance to the Acura Precision EV Concept, introduced in August 2022 at the same event. However, the production model will feature a more subdued and refined appearance.

According to Emile Korkor, the assistant vice president of Acura National Sales, the ZDX Type S will be the most powerful and quickest SUV in Acura’s history, aligning with the brand’s commitment to delivering precision-crafted performance. This indicates that the ZDX Type S will prioritize the driving experience while delivering exhilarating performance in the electric vehicle market.

Regarding production, Acura has not yet disclosed the specific manufacturing location for the 2024 ZDX and ZDX Type S. However, they have stated that all models sold in America are built in the US. This suggests that the ZDX could be manufactured alongside the Cadillac Lyriq at GM’s Spring Hill assembly plant in Tennessee. The powertrains are expected to mirror those of the Lyriq, offering a 340-horsepower single-motor rear-wheel-drive option and a 500-horsepower dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant for the Type S.

Overall, the electrified 2024 Acura RDX is generating excitement in the automotive industry due to its innovative electric powertrain, advanced features, and commitment to precision performance. The debut at Monterey Car Week will mark a significant milestone for the Acura brand as they enter the EV market with a strong contender.
