The Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe has undergone a significant transformation for its second generation. This comprehensive overhaul promises a slew of enhancements, ranging from the introduction of 2+2 seating options to a technological facelift and a refreshing exterior makeover.

Within the AMG GT Coupe lineup, enthusiasts can anticipate two distinct configurations: the GT 63 Coupe boasting a formidable 577 horsepower and the GT 55 Coupe delivering 469 horsepower. While precise pricing details remain shrouded in secrecy, it is anticipated that the base MSRP will flirt with the $100,000 mark, a modest increase from the current model’s starting price of just over $97,000.

Despite its evolved appearance, the redesigned GT retains its unmistakable identity. It proudly features Mercedes’ Digital Light headlights as standard equipment, accentuated by signature LED light dots serving as running lights. At the rear, an active spoiler, paired with LED taillights sporting a three-dimensional aesthetic, makes its presence felt.

The innovation doesn’t stop at aesthetics. Active aerodynamic bodywork plays a pivotal role in ensuring the car maintains its stability, featuring dynamic louvers that adapt to direct airflow beneath the vehicle. A sophisticated software system keeps these adjustments in check, monitoring variables such as vehicle speed, directional acceleration, and steering activity. The rear spoiler itself is a dynamic player, capable of shifting between five positions when speeds exceed 50 mph, optimizing either stability or downforce.

Of course, the heart of the excitement lies within the handcrafted engines AMG is celebrated for. Under the GT’s hood resides a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine, adhering to AMG’s revered “one man, one engine” philosophy. Generating an impressive 577 horsepower, the GT 63 demonstrates its prowess by catapulting from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 3.1 seconds. Meanwhile, the 469-horsepower GT 55 isn’t far behind, achieving the same feat in 3.8 seconds. These impressive power figures are made possible through enhancements like a new oil pan, a revamped intercooler, and active crankcase ventilation. Notably, engineers have pushed performance boundaries by cranking up turbo boost pressure and optimizing cooling.

Backing this powerhouse is a nine-speed dual-clutch transmission, boasting a wet start-off clutch that contributes to weight reduction and heightened responsiveness. Both GT models benefit from AMG-tuned all-wheel drive featuring torque vectoring technology that continuously monitors traction. Further weight savings are achieved through the use of forged aluminum components throughout the suspension. The addition of a limited-slip rear differential and active rear-axle steering enhances handling and tightens the car’s turning radius, elevating the driving experience. Update confirmed from Road & Track: Total curb weight comes to 4,343 pounds.

The interior of the Mercedes-AMG GT doesn’t lag behind. With the introduction of an optional 2+2 seating arrangement, the GT offers greater versatility. Though the rear seats are described as suitable for occupants less than five feet tall, the inclusion of a hands-free trunk lid and foldable rear seats provides additional cargo space when needed. Standard AMG sports seats are complemented by the availability of AMG Performance seats, featuring aggressive bolstering, integrated headrests, and ventilation. These bolsters even adjust their positions in sync with the selected drive mode, enhancing comfort and support.

Both GT models come equipped with the AMG Track Pace app, offering real-time vehicle performance data and timing information via the infotainment screen. In terms of safety and connectivity, an array of advanced features is on offer, including an augmented reality camera view and the MBUX infotainment system. This system seamlessly integrates with various connected services, including traffic information, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a host of other apps.

As the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe takes center stage with its impressive blend of power, technology, and style, it continues to epitomize the spirit of high-performance luxury motoring. With its storied racing pedigree and an array of modern innovations, it promises an exhilarating driving experience for aficionados and newcomers alike.
