Ford has made a big step but carefully approached the task of updating the F-150 in an evolutionary move, and there’s some big and small changes that really matter in listening to what fans of the best selling vehicle in America want.

The 2024 Ford F-150 introduces a series of subtle yet impactful updates, demonstrating that the devil is indeed in the details. At first glance, it may seem challenging to distinguish this refreshed model from its predecessor. However, a closer look reveals several noteworthy changes that enhance both aesthetics and functionality.

Starting with the exterior, the front of the 2024 F-150 showcases updated styling, with redesigned headlights featuring distinctive LED strips forming a C-shape on the corners. The bumper design also incorporates C-shaped elements and rectangles, contributing to a more modern and cohesive look. Ford has ingeniously integrated the grille into the headlights, resulting in a “coast-to-coast” design that brings a refreshing sense of symmetry to the F-150’s appearance. The various grille styles, tailored to specific trim levels, offer a range of unique visual elements, from the STX package’s retro egg crate grille to the Tremor’s vibrant orange-trimmed grille.

One of the standout features of the 2024 F-150 is the Pro Access Tailgate, representing Ford’s response to similar tailgate innovations from competitors like Ram, Chevrolet, and GMC. This innovative tailgate features a simple swing-out door within the traditional drop-down gate. It opens in three increments, at 37 degrees, 70 degrees, and 100 degrees, making it exceptionally convenient for accessing items in the truck bed. The first increment is shallow enough to open even when a trailer is attached. Additionally, Ford has added a storage box behind the passenger wheel in the bed, with a second one on the driver’s side, although this feature is exclusive to non-Power Boost models.

While the storage boxes are a standard feature across the lineup, the Pro Access Tailgate is available as part of a $1,620 Bed Utility Package on Lariat and Tremor trims and comes standard on higher trims. Unfortunately, it is not offered on the XL or XLT trucks for the 2024 model year.

Trim-wise, the 2024 F-150 retains the XL as the entry-level option but introduces a new Platinum Plus trim, replacing the Limited as the flagship luxury variant. Ford has phased out the naturally aspirated 3.3-liter V6 base engine, with the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 now serving as the standard engine, producing 325 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. The 5.0-liter V8, the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, and the hybrid powertrain remain unchanged for 2024. Details about the F-150 Raptor R’s supercharged 5.2-liter V8, along with any potential power increases, are yet to be disclosed by Ford.

In the realm of technology, the 2024 F-150 introduces an optional heads-up display for the first time. All trim levels now feature digital interfaces, with standard 12-inch driver and center touchscreens. LED headlights are also standard, and Ford has equipped the F-150 with an impressive array of 10 driver-assist systems. The operating system is Sync 4, and BlueCruise version 1.2 is available, offering hands-free lane change and enhanced lane-keep functionality. The exterior cameras can now display two views simultaneously on the center screen, depending on the selected drive mode.

Ford has also introduced a new theft-deterrent system called Ford Stolen Vehicle Services, accessible through the Ford app. This system can alert the owner to suspicious activity and initiate contact with authorities within 30 seconds. Exit Warning is another feature offered, notifying occupants of approaching vehicles or pedestrians from behind.

For those with an eye for aesthetics, the 2024 F-150 offers new color options and wheel packages. The Platinum Plus trim boasts a unique Smoked Truffle interior shade, while other trims feature Medium Dark Smoked Truffle with mushroom tones. The F-150 Raptor and Tremor models come equipped with a versatile modular front bumper, allowing for dealer-installed Ford Performance upgrades like winches or light bars. The Raptor also introduces new dual-valve Fox shocks and an exclusive exterior color called Shelter Green. Additionally, Ford provides various black appearance packages for those who appreciate a sleek and stylish look.

While pricing details for the 2024 Ford F-150 are pending, it’s important to note that Ford has streamlined the number of available configurations by a remarkable 90 percent without sacrificing essential options. This suggests that more features will be bundled into packages, and further information will be available closer to the on-sale date of the 2024 F-150. With its blend of design updates, technological enhancements, and thoughtful features, the 2024 Ford F-150 continues to be a key player in the highly competitive truck market.
