Nissan made a significant announcement on Monday, signaling a bold and electrifying move for its future in Europe. The company stated that from this point forward, all new models introduced in the European market will be exclusively electric. Furthermore, Nissan has set an ambitious target to sell only electric vehicles (EVs) across the continent by the year 2030.

Nissan’s CEO, Makoto Uchida, emphasized the company’s unwavering commitment to this transition, stating, “There is no turning back now.” Uchida explained that Nissan’s decision to go all-electric in Europe is not merely a business strategy but a responsible and forward-thinking choice for the environment and their valued customers.

As part of this momentous shift towards electrification, Nissan has disclosed plans to produce one of its two confirmed EV models for the European market at its Sunderland manufacturing facility in northern England. This decision aligns with a broader global trend towards sustainable manufacturing practices and represents an investment in the local economy.

Nissan’s decision to accelerate its electric vehicle efforts in Europe comes in response to increasing competition in the electric vehicle sector, where newcomers like Tesla have been dominating the market. Earlier this year, Nissan committed to launching an impressive lineup of 19 new electric vehicle models by 2030, a clear signal of their determination to remain competitive in the rapidly evolving automotive landscape.

Notably, Nissan has set an interim goal to electrify a significant portion of its sales in Europe by its fiscal year ending in March 2027. By that time, the company aims to have 98% of its sales in Europe comprised of electrified vehicles. These vehicles include both fully electric cars and hybrid models equipped with both a sizable battery and a combustion engine.

This latest commitment to transitioning to an all-electric lineup in Europe by 2030 brings Nissan in line with its alliance partner, Renault, which shares a similar vision for the future of their Renault brand. Additionally, other major automotive players like Ford and Stellantis have also set their sights on achieving full electrification in Europe by the same target year of 2030. The race towards electric dominance is not limited to Europe alone, as Volvo has declared its intention to exclusively sell electric vehicles globally by 2030.

Nissan’s resolute shift towards an all-electric lineup in Europe reflects the broader industry trend of embracing sustainable and eco-conscious transportation solutions. As electric vehicles continue to gain traction, the automotive landscape is undergoing a transformative shift that will undoubtedly shape the future of mobility in the region and contribute to a cleaner and greener planet.
