In the realm of affordable vehicles, the 2024 Nissan Sentra and Kia Forte stand as stalwarts, continuing their tradition of budget-friendly options, with base trim models starting at $21,725 and $20,915, respectively.

Nissan introduced updates to the 2024 Sentra earlier, but details such as price and fuel economy remained a mystery until now. The 2024 Sentra, following a mid-cycle refresh, flaunts a restyled front fascia adorned with new headlights. Beneath its hood, the 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine carries over, boasting 149 horsepower and 146 pound-feet of torque. However, the standout mechanical enhancement comes in the form of a new Xtronic continuously variable transmission (CVT), engineered to offer smoother shifts and support a start/stop system. In terms of safety, Nissan has made strides by including Nissan Safety Shield 360 as standard across all 2024 Sentra models, which encompasses features like automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot warning, high beam assist, and rear automatic braking.

For those considering the Sentra’s middle SV trim, Nissan sweetens the deal with the SV Premium Package. This package bundles a 360-degree camera, an eight-speaker Bose audio system, and turn-signal-equipped mirrors. Meanwhile, the Sentra’s top SR trim undergoes a more extensive makeover to align itself with the Altima SR. Changes include a dark-finish V-Motion grille, dark chrome lower bumper features, a body-color trim strip below the grille, red SR badges front and rear, and a new rear lower fascia graphic that visually widens the rear end. Nissan has also introduced new 16-inch wheels and heated front seats as standard equipment for the Sentra SR. Furthermore, a sportier vibe is added with red-orange stitching throughout the interior, while a new Atlantic Gray paint option joins the lineup.

While Nissan claims improved fuel efficiency with the new CVT, we still await EPA fuel economy ratings. The 2023 Sentra S and SV were rated at 29 miles per gallon in the city, 39 mpg on the highway, and 33 mpg combined by the EPA, with the SV trim slightly behind at 28 mpg city, 37 mpg highway, and 32 mpg combined. It’s important to note that the 2024 Sentra comes with a price increase of $430 compared to the 2023 model, with prices as follows:

  • Sentra S: $21,725
  • Sentra SV: $22,655
  • Sentra SR: $24,815

Comparatively, the 2024 Kia Forte enters the arena with a base price of $20,815, providing consumers with another budget-friendly alternative. In terms of enhancements for the 2024 model year, the Forte GT-Line sees the most significant price increase, now priced $630 higher than the previous year. However, it now includes a front collision alert for cyclists, an electronic parking brake, highway driver assist, and navigation-based smart cruise control as standard features. Notably, these were previously part of the GT-Line Tech Package, which Kia has phased out for the new model year.

Under the Forte’s hood, you’ll find two available engines: a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque and a more spirited 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque.

Inside the 2024 Kia Forte, drivers will appreciate the upgrades. The standard driver’s display has grown to 4.2 inches from the previous 3.5 inches, and the infotainment touchscreen has expanded to 10.25 inches, a notable increase from the prior 8.0-inch screen. Additionally, the Forte now offers wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functionality. For those opting for the GT-Line and GT trims, synthetic leather upholstery is a welcomed addition.

The new 2024 Kia Forte trim level pricing is as follows:

  • Forte LX: $20,915
  • Forte LXS: $21,415
  • Forte GT-Line: $23,415
  • Forte GT (6-speed manual): $26,315
  • Forte GT (7-speed dual-clutch auto): $25,615

In the competitive landscape of affordable vehicles, both the 2024 Nissan Sentra and Kia Forte continue to offer value-conscious consumers compelling choices with updated features, making them stand out as affordable options in a crowded market.
