In the ever-evolving world of luxury automobiles, BMW has once again managed to captivate the automotive enthusiasts’ attention with the 2024 BMW X2. This new iteration presents itself as a bold departure from its X1 sibling, defying expectations with a distinct character and an updated design.

Gone are the days when the X2 closely resembled the X1 in both form and function. The 2024 X2 emerges with a fresh silhouette that sets it apart from the recently-launched X1. This transformation is primarily attributed to the revamped body lines and expanded dimensions. The most noticeable change is the adoption of a fastback roofline, placing the X2 in the exclusive crossover-coupe category, alongside its bigger counterparts, the X4 and X6.

The X2’s redesigned roofline isn’t the only alteration; it now boasts dimensions that put it in a league of its own. It’s 7.6 inches longer, 0.8 inches wider, 2.5 inches taller, and with a 0.9-inch longer wheelbase compared to the previous X2. In fact, it’s 2.6 inches longer than the brand-new X1, clearly signifying its unique position in BMW’s lineup.

The 2024 BMW X2 offers consumers two distinct variations: the xDrive28i and the M35i xDrive. The increase in size adds approximately 300 pounds to the curb weight, with the xDrive28i weighing in at 3,803 pounds and the M235i at 3,840 pounds. Both models exhibit impressive performance, thanks to their respective powertrains. The xDrive28i is equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 241 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, allowing it to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.2 seconds. The M235i, on the other hand, elevates the power output to 309 horsepower and maintains the same torque figure, reducing the 0-60 mph time by a whole second. It also emanates a distinctive, sportier exhaust note, characteristic of M Performance models. Power is seamlessly distributed to all four wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission with a built-in limited-slip differential. For those who crave spirited driving, shift paddles are included in the M235i and are optionally available for the xDrive28i. When coupled with the M Sport Package, the left-hand shift paddle triggers the Sport Boost function, adding an extra layer of excitement.

In terms of aesthetics, the X2 draws inspiration from its larger counterparts, the X4 and X6. The front fascia boasts a flat and wide grille, which can be accentuated by an illuminated contour. The standard LED headlights incorporate two vertical, chevron-shaped daytime running lights that also double as turn signals. The side profile remains uncluttered with character lines, drawing attention to the sleek door handles nestled within sculpted wheel arches and the stylish wheel choices. While standard wheel sizes are 19 and 20 inches, the 2024 X2 introduces optional 21-inch wheels for the first time, providing a more aggressive look, particularly for the X2 M35i xDrive trim. At the rear, the taillight elements mirror the front’s chevron shape, maintaining the vehicle’s modern and cohesive design. The rear design is marked by a restrained aesthetic, highlighted by a rear spoiler with a Gurney flap at the base of the hatch and a black lower bumper housing quad four-inch exhaust pipes.

The expanded dimensions of the X2 result in an increased cabin space, benefiting both occupants and cargo. The front-row passengers can enjoy more shoulder and elbow room, while second-row passengers gain an extra inch of knee room. With the second row in place, the X2 offers a respectable 25.3 cubic feet of cargo space, which can be substantially expanded to 51.7 cubic feet by folding the rear seats, providing ample room for various loads.

Inside the cabin, BMW has embraced a futuristic approach to control and design. The BMW curved display and iDrive 9 have taken center stage, eliminating the need for traditional knobs and buttons. The vent strip offers four trim options, including a new aluminum choice, while the M Sport Package presents an Aluminum Hexacube look. Below the display, a vertical pad for wireless charging keeps the driver’s phone conveniently within view. The center console between the seats is the last bastion of physical controls, featuring a new gear selector toggle, buttons for functions like Start/Stop, a volume knob, and the electronic parking brake.

The seats within the X2 have been meticulously designed to provide support during spirited driving while ensuring long-distance comfort. These seats come standard in Veganza animal-free surfaces, available in Black, Mocha, or Oyster, with two-tone options like Red/Black or Atlas Grey/Smoke White. Even the M Sport package embraces the eco-friendly trend, combining Veganza with Alcantara sport seats in black with blue contrast stitching. Additionally, the option of a dark-tinted panoramic roof provides a sense of openness to the cabin.

The 2024 BMW X2 stands as a testament to BMW’s commitment to evolving its product lineup to meet the ever-changing demands of the luxury car market. With its distinctive design, enhanced performance, and modern interior, the X2 offers a compelling choice for those seeking an adventurous and stylish driving experience.
