Future Lexus LFR Prototype Caught Testing at Sebring

There’s been much talk about a forthcoming successor to the Lexus LFA, and that rumor mill is spinning a bit faster today as we get footage of what appears to be the Lexus LFR in a prototype form testing at Sebring just after the 12 hours of Sebring IMSA race.

What we hear sounds like a roaring V8 engine, though there could be some additional wizardry going on, considering how heavily invested Toyota and Lexus are with hybrid powertrains. Moreover, other rumor reports have said that the new Toyota GT GT3 will be the return of the LFA dubbed as a Lexus LF-R.

We’ve seen Lexus showcase what is said to be an electrified supercar, with the claims of it being the successor to the LFA that has the performance to hit 60 mph in the ‘low 2-second range’ and has a theoretical range of around 435 miles using solid-state batteries. Seeing this new Lexus test around Sebring with its roaring sound rather debunks the electrified dream unless Toyota/Lexus has something special up their sleeves that is, in fact, a hybrid of sorts. Another plausible theory is the idea of doing both a full EV version and a gas-powered hybrid type LFA successor, but that would increase costs to supplement research and development of such.

Either way of what this vehicle testing vehicle could be powered by, it’s exciting to see something burning gas that may be forthcoming as a potential successor to the Lexus LFA supercar.

A big thanks goes out to our friend Rich With Cars for sharing the footage.
