Hyundai has done some housekeeping with its 2013 Genesis luxury sedan lineup. If you were saving your money to buy one with the 385 horsepower, 4.6-liter Tau V-8, you’re going to be out of luck in 2013. The same holds true if you were hoping to land a non-R-Spec model equipped with the 5.0-liter Tau V-8, which makes 429 horsepower.
Instead, the 2013 Genesis sedan lineup will mostly be powered by Hyundai’s 3.8-liter Lambda V-6, which got a boost in output to 333 horsepower last year. While most luxury sedan buyers will find that to be plenty, those who want a side order of speed can still opt for the Genesis R-Spec sedan, which still gets the 5.0-liter V-8 as well as a sport-tuned suspension.
Also new for 2013 is an available eight-inch Driver Information System and an updated navigation system with improved graphics. Hyundai’s Blue Link Telematics system (with a complimentary one-year subscription) is now included on all Genesis sedan models.
Hyundai says the changes simplify its model offerings, and we’re inclined to agree. One of the reasons why Hyundai can include some much content for the price is that, like Honda, it limits the number of model configurations that it builds. If dropping a few slow-selling variants from the mix keeps pricing from going up, we’re all for it.
