Subaru Teases a 420-HP Family EV SUV Ahead of New York Auto Show Debut

Subaru is getting ready to pull the cover off another all-electric SUV, and this one looks like it could be a very big deal for the brand. Set for its global debut at the 2026 New York International Auto Show, the mystery model arrives with a simple but effective promise: fast, family-friendly, and all-wheel drive. Subaru has already confirmed 420 horsepower, which instantly makes this upcoming EV one of the most interesting reveals on the show calendar.

Even with the teaser image keeping most of the details hidden, there are a few clues worth paying attention to. The shrouded SUV appears to wear Subaru’s now-familiar EV lighting signature, complete with the six-pod daytime running lights seen on its other electric models, along with an illuminated front badge and roof rails that hint at a practical, adventure-ready mission. More importantly, Subaru’s own language keeps circling back to family use, which strongly suggests this will be a larger vehicle aimed at buyers who need more space than the current crop of compact electric crossovers can offer.

The 420-horsepower figure is what really changes the tone here. Subaru is not just adding another EV to fill out the lineup. It is setting this one up as a flagship-style offering with real performance credibility. Standard all-wheel drive means at least a dual-motor setup, and if the early hints hold true, this could end up being the most powerful production Subaru to date. That is a pretty bold statement from a company that built much of its enthusiast reputation on turbocharged rally-bred machines.

What makes this reveal especially interesting is how quickly Subaru’s EV lineup is taking shape. Not long ago, the brand had almost no real electric presence to speak of. Now it is building out a family of battery-powered SUVs with distinct roles, and this new model looks positioned to be the one that blends performance with everyday utility most convincingly. We will not have to wait long for answers, either, as Subaru says the full reveal is scheduled for 10 a.m. ET on April 1 at the New York show.
