Mercedes-AMG is expanding its electric GT 4-Door lineup with a more approachable version that still sounds plenty serious on paper. The 2027 Mercedes-AMG GT53 4-Door EV will slot below the more outrageous GT55 and GT63 models, giving buyers 536 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque from a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup. That makes it the new entry point into AMG’s next-generation electric performance sedan family, although “entry-level” is doing a lot of work here.
Compared with the 1,153-horsepower GT63, the GT53 is clearly the more restrained choice, but it should still be very quick. Mercedes-AMG says it should reach 60 mph in the mid-three-second range, which is more than enough to embarrass plenty of gas-powered sport sedans. The key difference is that the GT53 uses one motor at each axle, while the higher-output models use a more aggressive triple-motor configuration. For drivers who want the AMG EV look, pace, and technology without needing four-digit horsepower, the GT53 may be the sweet spot.

The battery and charging hardware remain serious. The GT53 uses a 106-kWh battery pack and an 800-volt electrical architecture, giving it the kind of high-speed charging capability expected from a modern performance EV. Mercedes says the car can add a major chunk of range in about 10 minutes when connected to a sufficiently powerful DC fast charger, and total driving range is estimated at roughly 423 miles depending on market and testing cycle. That combination of long range and fast charging could make the GT53 easier to live with than its performance billing suggests.

The unusual part is the sound. Unlike the old combustion-powered AMG53 models, this electric GT53 does not have a turbocharged inline-six under the hood. Instead, Mercedes-AMG engineers reportedly used 16 microphones to capture the character of a straight-six engine and recreate that experience through the car’s sound system. It may not satisfy everyone who misses real combustion noise, but it is an interesting approach. Rather than leaving the EV silent, AMG is trying to give the driver some mechanical theater, even if the engine is virtual.

That decision also says a lot about where AMG is heading. The brand knows performance EVs can deliver brutal acceleration, but it also knows speed alone does not create emotion. AMG has built much of its identity on sound, drama, and a sense of occasion, so the GT53’s straight-six-inspired soundtrack is an attempt to keep some of that personality alive. Whether buyers embrace it or roll their eyes may depend on how natural it feels from behind the wheel.

Pricing has not been announced yet, but the GT53 should come in well below the six-figure territory expected for the most powerful GT63 variant. It will still be a premium AMG EV, but its role is clear: bring the new electric GT 4-Door experience to a wider group of performance buyers. With strong output, all-wheel drive, fast charging, long estimated range, and a little synthesized inline-six flavor, the 2027 Mercedes-AMG GT53 could become the more sensible choice in a lineup built around excess.
